- Two wins in a week have hoisted West Brom up to fifth
- Hull are outside the play-offs on goal difference after back-to-back wins
- Recommended bet: West Brom

One goal difference separates West Brom in fifth from seventh-placed Hull, two former Premier League clubs looking to get back to the top tier this season.

Both sides have won their last two matches, keeping clean sheets on each occasion, with West Brom on a run of three games without conceding a goal.

Team news

Adama Traore should start in attack for Hull

After scoring twice in a week, Brandon Thomas-Asante will be pushing for a recall in attack where Albion are short of numbers with Josh Maja and Daryl Dike having been joined on the sidelines by six-goal top scorer Jon Swift.

On-loan Brighton ace Jeremy Sarmiento has recovered from an ankle injury and could also start in attack. Centre-back Semi Ajayi is still out.

Liverpool loanee Tyler Morton has shaken off a thigh injury and should return alongside Jean Seri in Hull's midfield. That should allow Adama Traore to return to the right of the front four.

The stats

Only Leicester City boast a better defensive record in the Championship than West Brom, who have kept clean sheets in seven of their last nine matches.

West Brom are giving up 10.3 shots per game in the league this term, with only Watford and Leeds offering up fewer chances.

Hull, the only team to beat Leicester this season, have led at half-time in four of their last five away games.

None of the last nine meetings between these clubs has produced a draw with West Brom winning each of the last seven staged at The Hawthorns.

Prediction

West Brom and Hull have done very little wrong over the first 14 rounds of Championship action – yet still find themselves miles off the pace being set by Leicester and Ipswich – and both will take to The Hawthorns full of confidence.

Each side has won their last two league games, keeping clean sheets in both cases, and it is their defensive fortitude that is so impressive in a division full of goals.

Only leaders Leicester have leaked fewer goals than the Baggies and it is that solidness at the back, coupled with the fact that this is a fixture West Brom always seem to win, that makes Albion the most appealing option.

In the last 12 months West Brom have lost just twice at home, against Sunderland last term and, disappointingly, Huddersfield this season. In four home games since that reverse at the hands of Town, however, they have not let in a single goal.

Hull have actually performed better away than at home this season with 13 points taken on the road compared to 10 at home, but they have been beaten at Norwich and Ipswich.

West Brom have bragging rights in this fixture, having beaten Hull on their last seven visits, and can nick a tight one.
