Alex Reid’s goal early in the second half saw Wealdstone climb out of the National League relegation zone with a 1-0 win at Altrincham, who suffered another blow to their play-off hopes.
Altrincham had the best chance of a tight first half when only a good save from Luca Gunter denied Alex Newby, and the visitors took the lead when Reid met Dominic Hutchinson’s cross just two minutes into the second half.
Gunter again came to Wealdstone’s rescue to deny Justin Amaluzor while Rob Lainton prevented Enzio Boldewijn from doubling the visitors’ lead.
There were eight minutes added on but Altrincham could not avoid a fourth straight defeat that left them one point outside the top seven, while Wealdstone moved up to 20th, two points clear of the drop zone.
