Watford have looked good this season for Tom Cleverley, especially at Vicarage Road
Watford have looked good this season for Tom Cleverley, especially at Vicarage Road

- Watford have won five of their six games in all competitions this term
- Coventry are winless in five Championship away matches
- Recommended bet: Watford to win

A 1-0 loss to Sheffield United before the international break snapped Watford’s five-game winning streak, but Tom Cleverley’s men have a good opportunity to rediscover their form against an out-of-sorts Coventry.

Despite making the FA Cup semi-finals last term, the Sky Blues have yet to get going this term and a trip to Vicarage Road may not yield any points for Mark Robins’ 17th-placed side.

Team news

Central midfielder Imran Louza is the sole absentee for Watford, who may give new signings Daniel Jebbison, Kevin Keben and Festy Ebosele their full league debuts. Mileta Rajovic will be keen to start after netting a brace at the Coventry Building Society Arena last term as well as in his last Hornets appearance.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto suffered an ankle injury in Coventry’s loss to Norwich and will miss this trip to Vicarage Road. Ben Sheaf returned to training this week and will be looking to make his first appearance of the campaign.

The stats

Watford have won five of their six games in all competitions this term.

Coventry are winless in five Championship away matches.

The Hornets are unbeaten in eight home games, winning all four of their fixtures at Vicarage Road this season.

The Sky Blues are unbeaten in five meetings with Watford, winning twice in that run.

Mileta Rajovic scored twice on his last start and netted a brace at the Coventry Building Society Arena last season.

Both teams have scored in 10 of the Sky Blues’ last 14 Championship games.

Prediction

While a 1-0 loss at Sheffield United was disappointing, Watford were far from disgraced at Bramall Lane, having only one less shot than their opponents’ 17, and will feel more comfortable back at Vicarage Road this weekend.

The Hornets are unbeaten in eight home games and have won all four matches on their own patch this term by an impressive aggregate score of 12-1.

That is bad news for Coventry, who have struggled on their travels for a while now, going five Championship games without a win on the road - made worse by the fact that run features three defeats, including an embarrassing 3-0 loss to relegated Birmingham.

Robins’ men are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Watford, but the Hornets have come on leaps and bounds under Cleverley and could demonstrate their significant improvement with a win on Saturday.

Coventry have been outshot in all three of their away matches this term and those creative struggles could cost them at Vicarage Road, where the Hornets have racked up 81 shots (32 on target) in four home matches this term.
