Rob Page has given Wales a timely boost ahead of the World Cup by signing a new four-year contract.

The Dragons boss, 48, has been rewarded for his fine work after guiding his country to the tournament for the first time since 1958. 

After beating Ukraine in a qualifying play-off to book a spot in Qatar in June, he was made Wales' permanent manager until the end of the tournament. 

Page has been a key figure within the national team's set-up, helping them reach the last 16 at Euro 2022 and secure Nations League A qualification.

And he has now been handed a long-term deal as the Welsh FA look to the future. 

The former Port Vale and Northampton manager said: "There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team and I can’t wait for the challenge the next four years will bring, starting with our first World Cup in 64 years.

"This is an exciting time for Welsh football and I hope we can make the country proud in November and continue our success by qualifying for more major tournaments in the future."

Welsh FA president Steve Williams added: "I am delighted that Rob and the FAW have agreed a four-year contract to take the men's national team to the next stage.

"The World Cup is the perfect opportunity to show Wales on the world stage and I am positive Rob is the best person for the role, in Qatar and beyond."

Page's next task will be to prepare for the upcoming Nations League matches against Belgium and Poland as Wales look to record their first win of the tournament.

The former Watford defender will then begin planning for the World Cup, where the Dragons face England, Iran and the US in Group B.

"By putting the correct foundations in place, I am sure we will see Rob and the team qualify for more major tournaments in the near future and continue to grow the positivity and support around Welsh football at the moment."
