Transfer Talk: Spurs target Johnson and Orban in hunt for Kane replacement
The clock is ticking on Tottenham's search for a striker.
Richarlison started Spurs' first two games of the season following Harry Kane's exit but the Brazilian struggled against both Brentford and Manchester United.
And with just a few days of the transfer window left, time is running out for Ange Postecoglou's outfit.
Ahead of the North Londoners' trip to Bournemouth, we consider which forwards they should be eyeing up.
Gift Orban
Spurs have been linked with a move for Gent striker Gift Orban, who scored 15 goals in 16 Belgian Pro League appearances last season.
The 21-year-old Nigerian also netted 16 times across 22 league matches for Norwegian side Stabaek in 2022.
Gent manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck has been effusive in his praise of the forward.
He said: "I saw him again this week in training scoring two or three great goals in just a few minutes.
"I haven't seen that very often. It just stays that way, our mouths often fall open. Will he surprise me? No, it's just enjoyment, every day we watch with a smile on our face.
"He is an incredible weapon that everyone wants."
Evan Ferguson
Evan Ferguson was a revelation for Brighton last term.
The 18-year-old scored 10 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions in his breakout campaign, leading to speculation around a potential move to Spurs this summer.
Only three players in the Premier League — Callum Wilson, Roberto Firmino and Erling Haaland — scored more goals from open play per 90 minutes than Ferguson (0.57).
The Republic of Ireland international also says he has been influenced by Kane.
He said: "I take little bits out of his game and try to bring them into my game. I see why people say that we're a little bit similar.”
Brennan Johnson
Another young Premier League talent reportedly on Tottenham's radar is Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson.
The 22-year-old scored eight league goals last season, playing a key role as Steve Cooper's side avoided relegation.
Johnson had an xG of 7.65 in the Premier League but a post-shot xG of 10.13, reflecting his impressive finishing ability.
Jonathan David
A move for Lille striker Jonathan David would be ambitious from Tottenham's perspective.
The Ligue 1 club are likely to demand a hefty fee for their star player, who scored 24 goals in the French top flight last season and has hinted at a desire for a move to England.
He said: "The Premier League is the best league in the world and I think every player would want to play there some day."
Lautaro Martinez
If Tottenham want to replace Kane with a truly world-class striker, Inter Milan hotshot Lautaro Martinez could be the man.
Prying him away from the San Siro is likely to be a difficult task, though, with Inter determined to keep hold of the Argentina international.
Martinez scored 21 Serie A goals last season and already has two after just one game of the 2023-24 campaign.
Only Victor Osimhen (55) had more shots on target than Martinez (52) in the Italian top flight last term.
