Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is on the hunt for a new club

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is at a career crossroads.

After six successful but injury-plagued years at Liverpool, the 29-year-old England international desperately needs to get back playing regularly.

With offers in England, Turkey and Saudi Arabia said to be on the table, we assess the versatile midfielder's options.

Fitness battle

Oxlade-Chamberlain's talent has never been in doubt but sadly his presence on the pitch often is.

After making 42 appearances in all competitions during his maiden Reds campaign, he would go on to feature only 104 times across the next five — averaging out at roughly 20 outings per season.

An ACL injury sustained in April 2018 was the start of a downward spiral, with the Southampton academy graduate unavailable for over 80 matches due to fitness issues during his time at Anfield.

Speaking after the utility man's release in June, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: "It was always a real joy to work with him.

"One or two injuries too many caused some problems, obviously, but I love him."

Buzzing again

While Aston Villa, West Ham and Brighton have all been linked with Oxlade-Chamberlain, Brentford are thought to lead the race.

Only 18 months ago, the Bees provided a perfect platform for Christian Eriksen to rebuild his career after a cardiac arrest — a stint that soon saw Manchester United come calling.

Now, reports suggest the West Londoners have Oxlade-Chamberlain in their sights, viewing his top-level experience as a potentially huge boost to a youthful changing room.

The additions of Nathan Collins, Kevin Schade and Mark Flekken suggest another top-half tilt is on the cards next term and working under Thomas Frank could easily appeal to the 35-cap ace.

Turkish trip

A fresh start abroad is also an option, with Turkish giants Besiktas willing to make Oxlade-Chamberlain their highest earner.

The Istanbul-based outfit finished third in the Super Lig last term, 10 points behind champions Galatasaray who have just landed their own Premier League star in Wilfried Zaha.

That means no Champions League football in 2023-24, though Senol Gunes' side could be one of the big hitters in next season's Europa Conference League.

With capacity crowds and a fiercely competitive domestic scene, Besiktas may be the place the ex-Arsenal man rediscovers his mojo.

Follow the crowd

Saudi Pro League clubs are throwing their hat in the ring for many of Europe's out-of-contract stars and Oxlade-Chamberlain is no different.

An unnamed Saudi side have supposedly tabled a lucrative offer and it is not hard to see why, given his pedigree and global profile.

Kop heroes Steven Gerrard and Robbie Fowler are now both coaching in the Gulf State, Roberto Firmino has joined Al-Ahli while Fabinho and Jordan Henderson could follow the Brazilian.

Oxlade-Chamberlain would therefore not be the first former Liverpool star to join a project which is quickly gathering pace.

Leave a legacy

While fame and fortune motivates many, Oxlade-Chamberlain has other factors influencing his next move.

Speaking about becoming a father last January, he said: "A big motivation for me is trying to stay at a really good level for as long as possible so that my son can see me play.

"I'm 29 now, he's nearly two. He should be able to remember me and it gives you motivation to stay at that level."

Remaining in England therefore appears to be the ideal scenario — especially with no shortage of suitors.
