Southampton will look to win their first game under new boss Ivan Juric when they host Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Croatian has been in the dugout for two games and, while the Saints have lost both of those matches, he has only seen his team lose by a single goal in both of those outings.

Brentford's form has dipped ahead of their trip to the south coast and a close game should be on the cards this weekend.

Team news

Juric is without several first-team players mostly through injury, although midfielder Mateus Fernandes is suspended after he collected his fifth yellow card in Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Fellow midfielders Flynn Downes and Will Smallbone are hoping to recover from thigh injuries, but Jack Stephens, Ross Stewart and Gavin Bazunu remain sidelined.

Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken recovered from injury to start in Wednesday's 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, but Ben Mee, Kristoffer Ajer, Ethan Pinnock, Joshua Dasilva, Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey all remain sidelined.

The stats

Southampton are winless in 10 games in all competitions, but Juric has only been in charge for the last two matches.

He lost his opening game 1-0 to West Ham, before the Saints fell to a 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Saints have only won once at home all season, picking up just four points from nine games on the south coast.

The Bees are winless in five, while they have the joint-worst away record in the top-flight, with their hosts also collecting just two points on the road.

Thomas Frank's side won the opening game between the two teams in August, running out 3-1 winners on home turf.

Prediction

The table suggests Brentford should have no problems beating Southampton on their travels this weekend, but the Bees have been hopeless on the road.

Frank's side have been inconsistent and they have conceded 16 goals on the road in nine games.

Worryingly, they have only scored six times away from the Gtech Community Stadium, which should help Southampton's cause.

Saturday's game features the worst team at home in the Premier League versus the joint-worst away team and that does not bode well for those who want to watch an entertaining battle.

Juric has tried to make his team tough to beat in the first few weeks of his tenure and a first point under his stewardship would be considered a success this weekend.
