Sarina Wiegman declared herself satisfied with England’s performance after they secured a vital 1-0 Nations League group-stage victory over Belgium.

The Lionesses dominated for most of the King Power Stadium encounter but only had Lauren Hemp’s 13th-minute goal to show for it.

Nevertheless, they climbed above Belgium into second place in Group A1 behind the Netherlands.

Boss Wiegman, whose side were beaten by the Dutch in their last outing, told ITV4: "We are very happy with the win, especially after losing the last match.

"We played with lots of energy. We wanted to dominate the game and that is what we did.

"We had hoped to score a few more goals because then it becomes a little easier.

"You could see on the counter-attack that they looked very dangerous, so if we had scored the second goal it would have made it more comfortable.

"We started the game really well with a lot of pace, then it dropped a little bit.

"We said after the World Cup, we sometimes lose the ball in dangerous moments and we were a lot more secure on the ball today. The decision-making needs to be right."

The Lionesses travel to Leuven to face the same opposition again on Tuesday in another key encounter.

The Netherlands, England and Belgium could all still top Group A1 and qualify for the finals in February or finish third and be forced to play a relegation play-off.

Wiegman's side host the Dutch at Wembley in December before playing Scotland in Glasgow.
