- Royal Ascot Day 2: Best bet, each-way selection and treble
- Recommended bets include:-
-
Horizon Dore to win the Prince Of Wales's Stakes
-
Elim each-way in the Kensington Palace Stakes

The second day of Royal Ascot 2024 takes place on Wednesday and this is one of the best betting days of the week, if not the year. The feature Prince Of Wales's Stakes brings together some of the best middle-distance horses around, and there are no fewer than four cavalry charges down the straight course, which are some of the best challenges around for punters.

Here is everything you need to know for day two, including the day's best bets.

Day 1 - Key info

First race: 14:30 Queen Mary Stakes

Feature race: 16:25 Prince Of Wales's Stakes

Day two of Royal Ascot features possibly the most significant race of the whole week in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes (16:25). Middle-distance horses remain the glamour division in British racing and this race will set the tone for who the three-year-olds will have to beat later in the year.

The market for that race this year is headed by last year's Derby winner Auguste Rodin and star mare Inspiral. But there is a French raider who could beat them both.

The following Royal Hunt Cup (17:00) is one of the most famously difficult handicaps of the year. There will be 30 useful milers, charging down Ascot's straight course and vying for position. The card then rounds off with another two races where runners will spread across the track, in the Kensington Palace Stakes (17:40) and Windsor Castle Stakes (18:15).

Best bet of the day

Horizon Dore to win the Prince Of Wales's Stakes (16:25) @ 11/2

Auguste Rodin and Inspiral are both brilliant on their day. But both are prone to a shocker, too. Given Auguste Rodin hated his last visit to Ascot and has not yet caught fire this year, and Inspiral needs to prove her stamina, it could be worth taking them on.

The weapon of choice is the French-trained HORIZON DORE. He has course form, having been third in the Champion Stakes over this course and distance in October. He has also built up to form in four runs this spring. He has run in Group 1s on his last two starts, being beaten by just three-quarters of a length the first time and a short head most recently.

The only doubt is faster ground than Horizon Dore has raced on. Watch his run in the Champion Stakes and you would fancy that less deep ground and a lesser test of stamina would draw out more from him.

Best each-way bet of the day

Edward Bethell has the chance to improve further on his good season with Elim in the Kensington Palace Stakes
Edward Bethell has the chance to improve further on his good season with Elim in the Kensington Palace Stakes

Elim in the Kensington Palace Stakes (17:40) @ 9/1

This unexposed filly has already won on the straight mile at Newcastle, which has a lot of similarities to the straight mile at Ascot. She also has the assistance of Jamie Spencer, who time and again has produced the goods on the straight course here, which is unusual in being a place where hold-up horses outperform the average.

Elim is bred to keep improving and will have got a fitness benefit from a recent run at Redcar. Trainer Edward Bethell is having a good season and she can do her bit by going close in this competitive handicap.

Day 2 acca

Everybody loves a Royal Ascot accumulator and we will be pointing towards one on each of the five days this week. On day two, our treble pays 116/1 with LiveScore Bet.

This horse made his debut only in April but improved on that to win a maiden impressively at Leopardstown last time. The second and fourth have won since and the third improved too, so to beat them so well, while still looking green, marks him out as Group class.

The solid option in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes is this French raider, who has been knocking on the door in Group 1s of late.

Aidan O'Brien tends to have one very forward two-year-old at this time of year and Treasure Isle looks like the one in 2024. He shot out of the stalls and did not see a rival at Naas last time. That is the best form in the field and Ryan Moore takes the ride again.
