Both teams to score in USA Women vs Zambia Women

With no restrictions on ages of players, the women's football at the Paris Olympics will feature some of the best individuals on the planet and the first batch of matches begins on Thursday.

Among those involved are an experienced Germany contingent and the USA, who are preparing for their first major tournament under Emma Hayes.

Germany Women vs Australia Women (Thursday, 6pm)

The stats

Germany have won 10 of their 14 matches since the end of the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Two of the four meetings between these teams have been won by Germany, who were 5-2 victors in a friendly back in April 2021.

Prediction

Horst Hrubesch is interim head coach of Germany until Christian Wuck takes the reins following the Olympics and he can lead his team to glory in their opener in Paris.

Not only has Hrubesch helped Germany to third spot in the Women's Nations League since taking charge, but his side also won five of their six matches during qualifying for Women's Euro 2025.

This is a tough test for Australia, who reached the semi-finals of the last Women's World Cup, albeit on home soil, and the ongoing absence of star striker Sam Kerr does not help their cause.

Germany, meanwhile, have the depth and quality to cause problems and look a decent option to win this game, but they may concede, as they have recorded just one clean-sheet across their last six games, while Australia have scored in six successive matches.

USA Women vs Zambia Women (Thursday, 8pm)

The stats

The USA have won gold at the Olympics women's football on four occasions, although the last time they topped the podium was London 2012.

Zambia won their final qualifier for the Olympics women's football 4-3 against Ghana.

Prediction

All eyes will be on the USA at the Olympics women's football this year but their opener against Zambia in Paris could be tougher than expected.

The USA remain one of the dominant forces in women's soccer, but they were dumped out of the 2023 Women's World Cup in the last 16 and have not achieved gold at the Olympics since 2012.

The arrival of former Chelsea boss Emma Hayes is a promising move, but she is still taking time to impose her methods on the Stars and Stripes and both teams to score could be a decent bet in this game.

The forward quality of the USA is clear to see but do not be surprised if they are breached by an attack-minded Zambia.

The African nation are spearheaded by talented forwards Barbra Banda of Orlando Pride and Rachael Kundananji of Bay FC, so they are undoubtedly a team with goals in them and their Olympic qualifier with Ghana featured seven goals.
