David Wagner's Norwich are fancied to improve upon last season's 13th-place finish

- Norwich have won their last two home games against Hull, scoring six goals
- Hull ended last season without a win in 10 consecutive away league matches
- Recommended bet: Norwich to win and both teams to score

Two teams that will hope to improve on bottom-half finishes in the Championship last season meet at Carrow Road on Saturday when Norwich City host Hull City.

Norwich managed to finish 13th, but they never recovered from a poor start under Dean Smith. David Wagner managed to guide them into mid-table, but he will be expecting much more from his side this season.

The Tigers, meanwhile, were two places and four points worse off, but Liam Rosenior's summer business hints at better this time around.

Team news

Norwich boss Wagner has not reported any fresh injury concerns since the 2-0 friendly victory over Olympiacos but he is still without Borja Sainz for the next few months due to an ankle problem.

His place in the team has already been taken by summer signing Christian Fassnacht, while fellow new recruit Ashley Barnes is expected to start up front.

Rosenior has recently added Aaron Connolly to his squad on a permanent basis from Brighton, but he is likely to be on the bench against the Canaries.

Rosenior has no major injury concerns and will be boosted by Lewie Coyle's return to fitness.

The stats

Norwich ended last season without a win in five home matches, and they failed to score in all of those games under Wagner.

The Canaries dropped down the table after one win in 10 in the Championship, but Hull only managed to pick up one more victory during that time.

Neither Norwich nor Hull have lost in pre-season, but the Tigers' last away win in the Championship came in January.

Prediction

With Wagner at the helm, Norwich's board will expect at least a play-off spot this season, even though they have lost striker Teemu Pukki over the summer.

The Finland international's exit is a blow, but Norwich have added some much-needed experience to their squad, signing Shane Duffy, Jack Stacey and striker Barnes.

New wingers Fassnacht and Borja are expected to add some goals to their ranks, but Hull have also brought in some firepower.

Connolly and Liam Delap, who is on loan from Manchester City, may help the Tigers push for a top-half finish, but with the former only signing on Wednesday, he will have had little time to gel with his fellow forward.

Hull should be a threat, but they are likely to fall short once again on their travels on the opening day.
