Southern Brave secured victory over London Spirit in their opening game of The Hundred and are favourites to repeat the trick when they visit Headingley to take on Northern Superchargers.

The hosts were beaten by Trent Rockets in their first game, falling well short of the victory target of 186, and the side coached by Andrew Flintoff will be looking to bounce back.

Team news

With England’s Test series against the West Indies having finished early, there is a possibility of Harry Brook and Ben Stokes featuring for Northern Superchargers, although the England captain’s inclusion looks unlikely.

Colin Ingram has been drafted in, although Jason Roy and Reece Topley also look likely to miss out through injury. Mitch Santner has only just finished his stint in Major League Cricket so is also a doubt.

For the Southern Brave, Finn Allen and Akeal Hossain will be unavailable as they both played in Sunday’s Major League Cricket final, while Kieron Pollard is also a doubt.

Northern Superchargers have lost their last six games in The Hundred, having finished bottom of the table last season.

However, the hosts have recorded comfortable wins in the last two meetings between these two sides.

Craig Overton took figures of 3-16 in the Southern Brave’s first game.

Prediction

Northern Superchargers have not had a good run of things recently, losing six games on the spin as they continue a terrible run from the end of last season, and they need a sharp turnaround if they are to contend in this year’s The Hundred.

Key to their success against the Southern Brave will be their bowling lineup as the Brave are well stocked in that department.

Adil Rashid failed to take a wicket in the Superchargers’ opener but that drought is unlikely to last long.

No player has taken more wickets in the history of the men’s Hundred than Rashid’s 31 and he will relish playing on his home ground of Headingley.

The spinner took 10 wickets in the recent T20 World Cup and gave himself a month to freshen up between that tournament and this one so side with Rashid to be the Superchargers’ top wicket taker.
