Back Northern Ireland to win to nil

Northern Ireland will look to maintain their strong home form when they host Belarus at Windsor Park in a crucial UEFA Nations League clash on Friday evening.

Michael O'Neill's side lead the way in Group C3 with one point more than Belarus, who are also looking to secure promotion to League B.

The Green and White Army have won five of their last six matches in Belfast across all competitions, keeping clean sheets in all five of those victories.

Victory for Northern Ireland would see them take a further step towards promotion and open up another potential qualifying route to the World Cup, so there is plenty at stake in this clash.

Team news

O’Neill is likely to recall first-choice goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who was ruled out of October's matches with a shoulder injury.

Rangers winger Ross McCausland is a doubt with an injury niggle, but Isaac Price looks likely to keep his place in the side after scoring a hat trick in Northern Ireland’s 5-0 win over Bulgaria at Windsor Park last month.

As for Belarus, veteran defender Alyaksandr Martynovich is expected to anchor the backline once again.

Forward Dmitri Antilevski will likely lead the line as the visitors look to spring an upset.

Forward Vitaliy Lisakovich, midfielder Pavel Savitsky and midfielder Valeri Bocharov will miss the game after being denied entry visas for the clash in Belfast.

The stats

Northern Ireland have won three of their previous four meetings with Belarus in all competitions, the exception being last month’s 0-0 draw in Hungary.

The Green and White Army have kept clean sheets in five of their last six home matches.

Belarus have failed to score in nine of their last 14 games in all competitions.

Northern Ireland have lost just one of their last six home Nations League fixtures.

Prediction

Northern Ireland's impressive home record and Belarus' scoring woes point towards a comfortable victory for the hosts on Friday.

Michael O'Neill's men dominated the reverse fixture in Hungary, recording 15 shots to Belarus’ seven and hitting the target seven times to the home side’s two.

The Green and White Army's recent defensive solidity at Windsor Park also suggests they can keep another clean sheet here.

They will be confident of shutting out a Belarus attack that has struggled for goals, failing to score in nine of their last 14 matches overall.
