Group C's heavyweight clash between the Netherlands and Sweden ended level

It remains all square in Women's Euro 2022 Group C as the Netherlands drew 1-1 with Sweden after Portugal and Switzerland's clash ended 2-2.

The heavyweight clash between the defending champions and Sweden produced no victor, with the pair now needing to better each other's results against Portugal and Switzerland in order to top the group.

Both sides are genuine contenders to win the tournament and the contest between them was as close as had been anticipated.

Sweden were more convincing in the first half and deserved their lead, courtesy of Jonna Andersson in the 36th minute.

However, the Dutch improved after the break and Jill Roord fired them level shortly after the restart.

Neither side was able to snatch a winner despite having chances to do so and the draw was ultimately a fair result.

It did neither side any favours after Portugal and Switzerland's tie presented an opportunity to take control of the group.

The minnows' clash was decidedly more dramatic with Switzerland racing into an early lead but failing to hold out.

The Swiss were two goals up after just five minutes with Rahel Kiwic adding to Coumba Sow's opener.

Rather than panic, Portugal rallied and kept themselves in the contest before eventually pulling a goal back shortly before the hour mark through Diana Gomes.

Jessica Silva restored parity with 25 minutes remaining but Portugal were unable to channel their momentum into a winner.

Portugal's comeback was the first time any side had gone two goals down and not lost in Women's Euros history.

Speaking afterwards, Selecao coach Francisco Neto said: "Today was proof of our growth as a team. Perhaps a few years ago we would have panicked and conceded more goals and that didn't happen today.

"Even when losing 2-0, the team kept calm, tried to reorganise, communicated and grew. That was the reason why we were competitive until the end and we deserved to win."

Opposite number Nils Nielsen was upbeat and said: "One point is better than none — it means we're still in the tournament.

"But it also means that we need to get points in the next two matches in order to proceed. We need to play better to do that."
