Missy Goodwin believes Leicester have proved what they are capable of against the best teams in the Women's Super League — but insists it is time to kick on and get results.

The Foxes are without a win in six WSL matches but have rarely been outplayed, giving a good account of themselves in defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea as well as a 1-1 draw with Tottenham.

And their 20-year-old forward is keen to begin a winning run this weekend.

She said: "We were saying the other day how we have scored in nearly every game on this run, even though we haven't won many recently.

"That gives us confidence that we can compete with these teams.

"Chelsea was a particularly tough match a few weeks ago but there are no easy games.

"It's about us now keeping up that performance level and hopefully results will come.

"Brighton on Sunday gives us the chance to do that."

The club have made a point of recruiting experience as well as young players and Goodwin hailed the impact of two-time Champions League winner Janice Cayman.

Cayman signed from Lyon in the summer and has scored two goals in seven league matches, while also making a difference off the field.

Goodwin said: "To play with a player like Janice is incredible. She's won two Champions Leagues and I can't help but learn from playing with her.

"She's got the experience that can keep us calm when results aren't quite there as well."

Going for glory

The Foxes are also going well in the League Cup, beating Liverpool 2-1 before edging past Manchester City on penalties at the end of November.

And Goodwin revealed that manager Willie Kirk is intent on success in the cup competitions as well as the league.

She said: "Willie has been very big on us not wasting any games.

"There aren't loads of minutes for us to gel as a team so we're not taking any cup game lightly, whether it be the League Cup or the FA Cup.

"We try and treat them the same whichever competition they are in and we're in a good place in the League Cup now.

"We can take confidence from our league games into the cup matches and it would be amazing for the club to win silverware."

Praise for Hayes

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes will leave her post in the summer as she takes charge of the USA women's team.

And having experienced the full force of the Blues in that defeat a fortnight ago, Goodwin paid tribute to a legend of the women's game.

She said: "She [Hayes] has been amazing for women's football in this country.

"I've lost count of how many trophies she has won but she has definitely taken the standard to a new level. Her Chelsea team has been incredible.

"She will be missed in the WSL but she will definitely go on to achieve big things elsewhere.

"Hopefully it will give everybody else a chance!"
