Skinner delighted to see Man Utd bounce back in Conti Cup
Marc Skinner was pleased with Manchester United's performance against Liverpool in the Women's League Cup on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils bounced back from a disappointing defeat to rivals Manchester City in the Women's Super League by beating Liverpool and strengthening their charge in Group B.
A single goal from Nikita Parris was enough to down the Reds despite a great effort from Matt Beard's side to hit back in the second half.
After the match, Skinner said: "Liverpool have a lot of quality, Matt is a really good coach and he builds his teams around that.
"We found a way to beat them. I was really happy with the resilience, we came off a performance that wasn't really us against City so to get back into the rhythm and control was good.
"Sometimes these wins are better than when you win 5-0 or 7-0 because it shows you have that grit and determination to hold onto a win and see the game out.
"I wanted us to bounce back tonight, to show that character, that quality. Sometimes we talk about wanting to play our football but I sometimes prefer tonight as it shows a different side to us.
"We got right back down to being us, hard to beat and also keeping clean sheets."
The win puts United into second spot behind City, who have played one game more but are just one point ahead in the standings.
Skinner's side are already seven points behind WSL leaders Chelsea and may have to focus their efforts on the Conti Cup if they are to win silverware this season.
Skinner added: "We want to progress, we want to win cups, leagues, we are ambitious. We are not taking this competition lightly.
"We got the hardest group in the draw by no stretch of the imagination but we find a way, sometimes it is not pretty but it's what we do.
"There was some real nice football in there tonight and I am looking forward to dissecting it and once again credit to the players."
