Kim Little was relieved to see Arsenal pick up their first point of the season at Manchester United.

After losing their opening game 1-0 to Liverpool last Sunday, Jonas Eidevall's Gunners needed a last-gasp equaliser from Cloe Lacasse to grab a share of the spoils at Leigh Sports Village.

Speaking to Sky Sports, skipper Little, 33, said: "It was so important for us to get the point.

“We showed a lot of character and Cloe's goal rounded it off at the end. We are so happy for her but also happy we got the point.

"It's always tough to come here and get a result. In the past we've found it difficult to get points here, so it's a positive result."

Alessia Russo was booed on her return to United following her summer switch and the England star was desperate to get on the scoresheet.

But it was fellow forward Stina Blackstenius who opened the scoring for the visitors after 14 minutes.

A mistake from keeper Sabrina D'Angelo allowed Leah Galton to level 13 minutes later and it was United who took the lead late in the second half through Melvine Malard.

Yet there was still time for Lacasse, who had joined the fray from the bench, to give Arsenal something to smile about.

Boss Eidevall said: "There's not many teams who come to Leigh Sports Village and are the better team — especially when you see the number of goalscoring opportunities.

"When we look back at it I think we’ll be a bit disappointed we didn't win because we had more clear chances.

"Maybe we're too greedy when the goal comes in the dying moments of the game. Of course, in that situation we’re happy with one point.

"We were more creative, more clear in attack. That was nice to see and nice for our travelling fans."

Little added: "As the game went on we really got time and space and made more and more chances.

"I think we have the quality to make the difference and score more goals but we just need to be cleaner in the finish."
