Pep Guardiola's champions have made an ominous start for any side with eyes on dethroning the four-in-a-row Premier League kings

- Manchester City have conceded in seven of their last nine Premier League home games
- Brentford have scored in nine of their last 12 away league matches
- Recommended bet: Manchester City to win & both teams to score

The Premier League season is just three games old, but champions Manchester City are looking imperious and their Norwegian goal machine Erling Haaland has already bagged seven goals, including hat-tricks against Ipswich and West Ham.

Brentford will head to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday hoping to build on their 3-1 win over Southampton and will have fond memories of beating City on their own patch the season before last.

Team news

City will hope Phil Foden will be available after missing England’s internationals with a virus and Rodri could make his first appearance of the season, but they will be without Nathan Ake, who suffered a thigh injury playing for the Netherlands. Oscar Bobb is still missing with a broken leg.

Brentford are hopeful Kristoffer Ajer will recover from an ankle problem, but Josh DaSilva, Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey and Igor Thiago are all unavailable to Bees boss Thomas Frank.

The stats

Manchester City have conceded in seven of their last nine Premier League home games.

Brentford were the last visiting team to win a league game at the Etihad in November 2022.

There have been at least four goals in six of City’s last seven home league matches.

Brentford have scored in nine of their last 12 away Premier League outings.

Six of Brentford’s last eight league matches on the road have featured at least three goals.

Prediction

Manchester City are one of just two Premier League teams to have won their opening three matches of the campaign and it would be a big surprise if they did not beat Brentford on Saturday.

However, that does not mean the Bees are sitting ducks on their trip to the Etihad and they have the ability to at least find the net.

Thomas Frank’s side won on their trip there in October 2022 and it is interesting to note that while an own goal at West Ham last time out ended a run of five straight away clean sheets for Pep Guardiola’s side, the Citizens have been more prone to conceding on their own patch.

A cagey goalless draw against their chief title rivals Arsenal last season has been the only occasion in their last seven Etihad outings that they have kept a clean sheet.

And while Brentford found opportunities hard to come by in their only away game to date, a 2-0 defeat at Liverpool, both Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa have looked sharp enough to suggest they can cope with Ivan Toney’s departure to Saudi Arabia.

It is difficult to see anyone containing City at the moment, particularly with Haaland in such rampant form, but there could be some value in backing the home team to win the game, but with both teams finding the net.
