Liverpool to win and over 3.5 total goals

Liverpool will be looking to pile the misery on rivals Manchester United when the pair meet at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Reds cemented their position at the top of the table with a 5-0 victory at West Ham last time out and they will be eager to maintain the momentum for their first outing of 2025.

United are in disarray ahead of the trip to Merseyside, with Monday's 2-0 defeat at home to Newcastle extending their losing streak to four games in all competitions and leaving them in danger of being dragged into a relegation fight.

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has been ruled out for a "few weeks" after picking up a hamstring injury in the victory over West Ham, but Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley are both back in training and could be involved in the matchday squad.

Dominik Szoboszlai is available for the Reds after serving his suspension.

United will have both Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte back after the pair missed the Newcastle defeat through suspension, meaning Joshua Zirkzee and Christian Eriksen are likely to drop out.

Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw remain out injured.

The stats

Liverpool are the leading scorers in the league, notching 45 times from 18 matches, while their tally of 17 goals conceded is the joint-best alongside Arsenal.

The Reds are on a four-game winning streak in all competitions and have not tasted defeat in their last 23 fixtures, with their sole loss this season a 1-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest.

United have lost four matches in a row, going down to Tottenham 4-3 in the Carabao Cup before then suffering three consecutive defeats in the league to Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle — failing to score in all of those top-flight losses.

The Red Devils have won just one of their last seven away assignments in the league, collecting six points during this disappointing period.

Prediction

Given the form of these two sides heading into the Merseyside spectacle, it is hard to look past anything other than a comfortable Liverpool win and this looks set to be another dismal day for United.

Ruben Amorim has failed to provide the spark required since taking charge and while that is understandable to an extent as he implements a new formation and ideas, he already finds himself under pressure.

United were cut apart by Newcastle in the opening 30 minutes on Monday and there was a sense the Magpies eased off when going 2-0 ahead, which suggests the scoreline could have been worse if Eddie Howe's side had gone for the jugular.

The Red Devils have conceded 21 goals during Amorim's reign, keeping just one clean sheet against struggling Everton during this period, and a shaky defence could be in trouble on Sunday.

Liverpool are scoring for fun, having notched three times or more in four of their last five league matches, but they have also recorded just one shutout during that period and they can be got at.
