Pep Guardiola could use a festive boost after one win in 13 games for Manchester City
Pep Guardiola could use a festive boost after one win in 13 games for Manchester City

- Leicester have conceded 10 goals while losing their last three games
- Manchester City have won their last four meetings with the Foxes
- Recommended bet: Manchester City to win and both teams to score @ 13/10

Both of these sides saw poor runs extended on Boxing Day, with Leicester’s losing streak extended to three games via a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool and Manchester City’s record now one win in 13 following a 1-1 home draw with Everton.

An upturn in form is required rapidly if the pair are to achieve their respective goals - survival for the hosts and the title for the visitors - and one is fancied to receive one on Sunday.

While their troubles may seem never-ending right now, City have more than enough firepower to see off a shaky Leicester at the King Power, although they may be breached in doing so.

Team news

Long-term absentees Abdul Fatawu, Wilfried Ndidi and Ricardo Pereira remain out and first-choice goalkeeper Mads Hermansen is also injured.

Jamie Vardy is expected to overcome a knock which saw him miss out against Liverpool and he should lead the line for the hosts.

Rodri, Oscar Bobb, John Stones and Ruben Dias are certain absentees for the visitors and Jack Grealish, Matheus Nunes, Kyle Walker and Ederson will need to be assessed after missing City’s draw with Everton.

The stats

Leicester have lost three of their last five home matches.

Manchester City have won just one of their last 13 games.

The Citizens have lost nine times in that run.

City have, however, won four of their last five trips to the King Power.

Both teams have scored in four of Leicester’s last five matches.

City are without a clean sheet in nine away games.

Prediction

With the prices available for any form of a positive result for Leicester so big, it could be tempting to back against the hugely out-of-form champions at the King Power.

However, the Foxes have shipped 10 goals while losing to Newcastle, Wolves and Liverpool and their slow defence and injuries in midfield make them fairly easy to play through, especially for sides blessed with attackers as talented City’s arsenal.

The absence of Mads Hermansen between the sticks is also a huge issue for Leicester and it is difficult to envisage them earning a positive result against the Citizens, who have won four of their last five trips to this midlands venue.

City’s dreadful run should not be entirely dismissed, though, and nine straight away games without a clean sheet will be a worry for Pep Guardiola.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side should be boosted by the return of veteran forward Vardy and they may have enough to net in defeat against the champions.
