Jelena Ostapenko is all the rage for her Wimbledon quarter-final clash with Barbora Krejcikova after coasting through to the last eight.

In a clash of former clay queens, 2017 French Open heroine Ostapenko is 1/2 with LiveScore Bet to defeat 2021 Roland Garros winner Krejcikova, who is 31/20 to progress to the last four.

However, while Ostapenko could take plenty of stopping, Krejcikova looks to have improved her game on fast courts and another close grass-court clash is anticipated between the pair after their Edgbaston final tussle last year, which the Latvian won 7-6 6-4.

Ostapenko enjoys a 5-2 lead in her personal series with Krejcikova but their latest meeting, their first on grass in Edgbaston last year, could have gone either way and the Czech won their only previous encounter in a Grand Slam tournament at the 2022 Australian Open.

The Latvian, seeded 13th at the All England Club this year, has stormed into the last eight without dropping a set, not dropping more than three games in the eight sets she has contested in the third major of the season.

However, Krejcikova has dropped only one set in the tournament herself and, judging by the way she dismissed Danielle Collins in the last 16, her game appears to be coming to the boil nicely.

Ostapenko was cock-a-hoop at overcoming Yulia Putintseva in the fourth round at Wimbledon and the Latvian, who has matured a great deal on court, clearly feels she can go a lot deeper in the women's singles this year.

That may be possible – Ostapenko has not dropped a set on the way to the last eight – but it may not do to dismiss the chance of Krejcikova coming up trumps in this quarter-final rumble.

With both former French Open champions having done their best work on clay, it has always been a case of the pair's need to up their games on faster terrain.

Ostapenko has always possessed considerable talent and she appears to have ironed out some of the wilder parts of her game on grass.

She is a genuine force and has to be considered a title threat with Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff having already exited the tournament and Aryna Sabalenka having taken no part in the London singles.

However, while Ostapenko's chance is respected, it is just possible that the strides Krejcikova has made on the nippy green terrain may be even bigger. Many questions have been raised regarding the Czech's versatility and she has been quoted at big three-figure prices to win this major.

But the way Krejcikova ousted the soon-to-be-retiring Danielle Collins in round four sent a serious message to those still standing in the women's draw that the Brno native, seeded 31st at Wimbledon this year, may not be a one-trick pony.

Krejcikova gets a handicap start of 3.5 games from Ostapenko and the favourite will to well to silence her opponent by four games or more.
