Jakub Moder’s goal against England at Wembley threw the Polish midfielder into the spotlight on the international stage — now he is looking to make his mark in the Premier League with Brighton.

The 22-year-old has more international caps than appearances for the Seagulls but big things are expected of the youngster after breaking into Graham Potter’s starting line-up last month.

Ahead of Brighton’s clash with Everton tonight, here is everything you need to know about the latest hot prospect to emerge at the Amex Stadium.

A surprise arrival

Moder joined the Seagulls in October for a fee of around £6million before being immediately loaned back to former club Lech Poznan.

That deal was meant to be until the end of the season but Brighton recalled the youngster in January — both to cover for an injury to Adam Lallana and because of the impressive form he was showing in Poland.

The breakout star had already racked up 1,213 minutes of playing time in the Polish Ekstraklasa in 2020-21 before moving to England, chipping in with four goals and two assists in 14 matches.

The next Busquets

A forward-thinking midfielder, Moder was likened to Barcelona playmaker Sergio Busquets by one former coach.

He is intelligent and efficient with the ball at his feet but there is more to Moder’s game than his impressive passing attributes.

Brighton’s (relatively) new arrival is a physical presence at 6ft 3in, delivers a deadly set piece and is particularly fond of driving a shot at goal from distance.

An unorthodox role

Potter is renowned for deploying his players out of position and Moder has been used as a left wing-back in both of his Premier League starts.

His primary role has been to link play between Lewis Dunk, Yves Bissouma and their attacking team-mates — regularly receiving the ball from the defensive-minded duo, before distributing it to the more creative Leandro Trossard and Danny Welbeck higher up the field.

It is no coincidence Welbeck has found the net in Brighton’s previous two league matches with Moder supplying the ammunition.

But the eight-cap Poland international has not just contributed down the left flank.

He has also spent much of his time on the pitch cutting inside to central areas, helping to switch play to the opposite wing and mix up the Seagulls’ attacking threat.

Making an impact

Potter has been pleased with Moder’s contribution during his short spell on the South Coast.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s Premier League clash with the Toffees, he said: "Moder has been adapting to a new club, adapting to a new team, a new league, a new country, so he’s done all of that really well.

"The team went through a period where we were playing well and getting some decent results at the start of the year, so he’s had to be a bit patient but he’s done it in a good way.

"He’s getting to know the players more, building relationships with them and he’s contributed well."

Looking to the future

Brighton’s youthful revolution is gathering pace, with a host of prospects starting to make an impact in the Premier League.

Aaron Connolly, Tariq Lamptey, Alexis Mac Allister, Steven Alzate and Andi Zeqiri are all 22 or younger and have already featured in the first team.

Meanwhile, big things are expected of Ecuadorian midfield prodigy Moises Caicedo in the seasons ahead.

The future is bright at the Amex but Moder may just be the pick of the Seagulls’ next generation.
