Coventry booked a place in the FA Cup semi-finals with a dramatic 3-2 victory at Wolves last time out, but their focus returns to the Championship play-off race for Friday’s clash at struggling Huddersfield.

Mark Robins’s side have earned a crack against Manchester United under the famous arch and their confidence should be sky-high after three successive wins in all competitions.

However, they have a four-point gap to close on sixth-placed Norwich and will need to push for a maximum in Yorkshire.

Huddersfield remained in the drop zone after a 0-0 draw at Rotherham last time out but they could climb as high as 17th with a win against the Sky Blues.

Huddersfield attacker Sorba Thomas will be suspended after his red card in the 0-0 draw at Rotherham before the international break.

Striker Danny Ward looks a prime candidate for a recall but Tom Lees (calf), Yuta Nakayama, Oliver Turton (both knee), Rhys Healey and Josh Ruffels (both groin) are expected to miss out.

Coventry trio Joel Latibeaudiere, Kasey Palmer and Haji Wright have been away on international duty and will need to be assessed.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto (back) continues his recovery but Jamie Allen (broken cheekbone) could be back in the mix.

The stats

Huddersfield have drawn 15 of 38 Championship games which is higher than any other team in the division.

The Terriers have scored the first goal in four of their last five home matches.

Coventry have won seven of their last 10 matches.

Eleven of Coventry’s last 12 matches have generated at least three goals.

Both teams have scored in 14 of Coventry’s last 18 fixtures.

Prediction

Huddersfield are having a tough season but they have shared the points in home matches against Championship highflyers Ipswich, Southampton and Leeds and can match playoff-chasing Coventry at the John Smith’s Stadium.

It is incredibly tight towards the bottom with five points covering the teams from 16th to 23rd.

The Terriers are in the drop zone but have eight games to get themselves out of trouble, including home matches against fellow strugglers Millwall, Swansea and Birmingham.

Given their favourable run-in, Huddersfield may be happy to take a point on Friday.

Coventry will be chasing a victory but they face a determined, organised opponent and might see a couple of points slip through the net.
