Saturday's focus is firmly on the action at Haydock ee on the card

Grade 1 action takes centre stage at Haydock on Saturday afternoon as the Merseyside venue hosts the latest instalment of their Betfair Chase — the first major staying chasers' prize in the British jumps season.

It is hard to believe this race has only been around since 2005, with four-time winner Kauto Star, three-time scorers Cue Card and Bristol De Mai and dual victor Silviniaco Conti on a decorated roll of honour.

Popular grey Bristol De Mai aims for a record-equalling win this time.

The card takes place from 12.10pm to 3.35pm and conditions are forecast to be 'Good to soft-good in places on hurdle course'.

We have picked five horses for you to follow on an exciting card.

12.10pm - Betfair Weighed In Podcast Newton Novices' Hurdle (Listed, 1m7½f)

A better race than the contest he won at Newton Abbot last month over further, but MIGHT I was very impressive in how he cruised through that race and the second has come out and won since.

Harry Fry won the same race with subsequent Grade 1 Tolworth scorer Metier last season and looks to have another bright prospect in this son of Fame And Glory.

French import Sonigino for Paul Nicholls as well as UK hurdles winners Barrichello and It's Good To Laugh can help ensure the selection is tested.

LiveScore selection: Might I

1.15pm - Betfair Pays Tribute To Andy Stewart Handicap Hurdle (2m3f)

The Donald McCain pair Navajo Pass and Mackenberg need respecting but TOMMY'S OSCAR is proving most consistent as a hurdler, with four wins and four placed efforts from nine starts.

He has got 3m winning point-to-point form and is unexposed at this distance, ensuring he may improve on his placed run at Carlisle (2m4f, soft) last month.

LiveScore selection: Tommy's Oscar

1.50pm - Double Daily Rewards With Betfair Graduation Chase (2m5½f)

BRAVEMANSGAME had the subsequent Charlie Hall winner Fusil Raffles behind when making a near-perfect start to his career as a chaser at Newton Abbot last month.

Paul Nicholls' charge faces a tougher test on these terms as both Itchy Feet and Pay The Piper are deemed worthy adversaries.

Still, this Ditcheat inmate is fully expected to be among Britain's leading novice chasers this season and he should take all the beating.

LiveScore selection: Bravemansgame

2.25pm - Betfair Exchange Stayers' Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3, 3m)

Brinkley hoping to give David Pipe a fifth win in this race since 2010
Brinkley hoping to give David Pipe a fifth win in this race since 2010

David Pipe has won this Grade 3 handicap four times since 2010 and he has got another solid looking contender in BRINKLEY now.

The 6YO won at Wincanton and Exeter early in the year before finishing midfield in the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival.

He has been eased 2lb and, given the record of the Pond House handler, should be primed for this race.

Riggs and Flight Deck join former Grade 1-wining staying hurdler If The Cap Fits amongst the potential dangers.

LiveScore selection: Brinkley

3.00pm - Betfair Chase (Grade 1, 3m1½f)

Bristol De Mai is dangerous to dismiss in his attempt to equal Kauto Star's record in this contest.

The grey loves Haydock but he has a 10YO now and his final two efforts of last season were underwhelming.

The form pick has to be A Plus Tard for Henry De Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore, second in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March and sure to be suited by this trip.

He has been turned over in the last three years on his comeback, however, and no Irish-trained horse has managed to win this prestigious race thus far.

He has got a major shout but ROYALE PAGAILLE is a solid alternative. Venetia Williams remains convinced he hurt himself when misfiring in that Gold Cup and his earlier performances last season included two wins here, the second being the Peter Marsh Chase off a mark of 156 in January.

Like A Plus Tard, he's young enough to be still improving at seven.

Next Destination and Imperial Aura need more to land this, while maybe time is now against Waiting Patiently after he moved to Christian Williams this summer.

LiveScore selection: Royale Pagaille
