- Goodwood Festival Day Three: Best bet, each-way selection and treble
- Recommended bets include:
-
Emily Upjohn to win the Nassau Stakes
-
The Waco Kid each-way in the Richmond Stakes

The third day of the Goodwood Festival takes place on Thursday, and it is a day for the fillies as the Nassau Stakes takes centre stage among four races that are live on ITV.

The feature race takes place at 3.35pm and is a Group 1 for females over a mile and a quarter. It promises to be a fascinating clash between the three-year-olds and the older generation. There are also two other Group races, the Richmond Stakes (2.25pm) and Gordon Stakes (3pm).

Here is everything you need to know for day three, including the day's best bets.

Day 3 - Key info

First race: 1.50pm Kincsem Handicap

Feature race: 3.35pm Nassau Stakes

The Nassau Stakes is one of the leading mile-and-a-quarter races on the calendar and it usually turns into a clash of the generations between the best three-year-olds and older horses in Europe. Six of the last 10 runnings have been won by the Classic generation.

The market for the race this year is headed by the Coronation Stakes runner-up Opera Singer, who was a convincing winner of a Group 1 in France last autumn. She is the leading three-year-old in the line up and the best of the older horses is Emily Upjohn, who has won two Group 1s herself and went close at the top level in Ireland last time.

The Richmond Stakes (2.25pm) is one of the best juvenile races of the week and usually throws up a star of the future, while the Gordon Stakes (3pm) is among the best trials for the final Classic of the season, the St Leger at Doncaster.

Best bet of the day

Emily Upjohn to win the Nassau Stakes (3.35pm) @ 15/8

Opera Singer’s presence in the Nassau Stakes means that Emily Upjohn should be a backable price and she has by far the best form on offer, so simply must be supported.

A dual Group 1 winner, Emily Upjohn proved that she is still capable of high-class form when second behind Bluestocking in the Pretty Polly at the Curragh last time and a reproduction of that form might be good enough. Bluestocking was second in the King George on Saturday.

Emily Upjohn loves fast ground, so conditions will suit, and this looks like a golden opportunity.

Best each-way bet of the day

The Waco Kid's prospects in the Richmond Stakes have been enhanced by the booking of Ryan Moore
The Waco Kid's prospects in the Richmond Stakes have been enhanced by the booking of Ryan Moore

The Waco Kid in the Richmond Stakes (2.25pm) @ 9/1

The Richmond Stakes is a cracking race and the one to back is The Waco Kid, who is by the 2016 winner of this race, Mehmas, and out of a half-sister to 2,000 Guineas hero Kameko.

The Waco Kid is evidently bred to make his mark in good company and he looked smart himself when running away with a 6f novice at Newbury just 12 days ago by a wide margin.

Ryan Moore has a 19% success rate when joining forces with The Waco Kid’s trainer Hugo Palmer and his booking is another indication that big things are expected.

Day 4 acca

Everybody loves an accumulator and we will be pointing towards one on each of the five days at Goodwood this week. On day three, our treble pays 50/1 with LiveScore Bet.

Bet 1: The Waco Kid in the Richmond Stakes (2.25pm) @ 9/1

The Waco Kid was impressive at Newbury last time and Ryan Moore is an eyecatching booking for Hugo Palmer’s team.

Bet 2: Jan Brueghel in the Gordon Stakes (3pm) @ 5/6

Jan Brueghel has been wildly impressive in winning both starts and looks capable of making the step up to Group company for red-hot Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore.

Bet 3: Emily Upjohn to win the Nassau Stakes (3.35pm) @ 15/8

This top-class filly has won two Group 1s and bounced back to her best when second at the Curragh last time. She can go one better.
