Roma raid Paris

Roma have completed a double swoop for Paris Saint-Germain midfielders Renato Sanches and Leandro Paredes.

Portuguese international Sanchez, 25, heads to the Stadio Olimpico on a season-long loan, while World Cup winner Paredes has made a permanent switch after four years with Les Parisiens.

It is a homecoming of sorts for Paredes, who effectively started his European career with the Giallorossi when joining them from Boca Juniors in 2014.

The 29-year-old told Roma's website: "Coming back to Rome is always a special thing for me, but doing so now as a Roma player is even more special."

Both will link up with Jose Mourinho's squad ahead of their Serie A opener against Salernitana on Sunday.

Davies is a Blade

Sheffield United have made former Everton midfielder Tom Davies their seventh signing of the summer.

Davies, 25, was released by his boyhood club at the end of last season and has now penned a three-year deal at Bramall Lane with the newly-promoted Blades.

Speaking after sealing his move, the former England Under-21s international said: "I'm made up to be here and can't wait to get started.

"It was time for me to go from the previous club to join Sheffield United and I'm really excited for it. I think it is a great project that the team have here and I'm full of enthusiasm and hunger to get going."

The Merseysider made 179 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions, scoring seven goals.

Making a point

The EFL have issued a one-point deduction to League One side Reading in relation to unpaid player wages.

An independent review found the Royals to have breached regulations on three occasions, failing to pay their players on time and in full in October 2022, November 2022 and April 2023.

A further suspended three-point deduction has also been imposed, while the club's under-fire owner Dai Yongge has been fined £10,000 and ordered to pay 125% of a forecasted monthly wage bill into a club account to help avoid further breaches.

Hit the road, Jack

Jack Harrison has paid tribute to Leeds after sealing a season-long loan move to Everton.

Versatile winger Harrison, 26, initially joined the Whites on loan from Manchester City in 2018 and made over 200 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He signed a contract extension with the Yorkshire outfit in April but will now spend the 2023-24 campaign with the Toffees.

Harrison wrote on Instagram: "Thank you, @leedsunited fans. We have shared so many amazing memories over the last five years.

"I will keep an eye on the results and wish you nothing but the best for the season ahead. Always MOT."

Remarkable red

Bolton boss Ian Evatt was sent off for watching a video replay of an incident during his side's 3-1 win over Fleetwood.

The bizarre incident occurred when the 41-year-old coach informed fourth official Martin Coy that the sending off of home forward Dion Charles appeared to have been an error.

Under new guidelines, Evatt's confession to watching a replay during the game is classed as a "misuse of technology" and he was duly dismissed by referee Tom Neild.

Evatt's assistant Peter Atherton explained: "The gaffer merely said he'd seen it back — he wasn't making any reference in terms of abusive language.

"He just said, 'I have seen it back and you have got it wrong. The keeper tripped Dion up.' And, apparently, just referring to having seen it back, that is a red card."
