Mour than sorry

Tottenham star Lucas Moura has apologised for his red card at Everton.

With Spurs 1-0 up against the 10-man Toffees last night, second-half sub Moura was given his marching orders after a dangerous challenge on Michael Keane.

To make matters worse for the 30-year-old Brazilian, Keane dusted himself off to thunder home a last-gasp equaliser just minutes later. 

With the draw damaging Tottenham's hopes of securing a top-four finish, Moura took to Instagram to say sorry for his rash tackle.  

He said: "There are good days and bad days, today is a bad day for me. No one is more frustrated than me. 

"I made a mistake and I accept that. I am not this kind of player and I didn't mean to do that. 

"Sometimes for the sake of milliseconds, something totally different happens than what you planned. 

"I want to apologise to my team-mates, the staff, the fans and the club. I will keep working hard to help the team as much as I can until my last day at the club."

Shaw thing

Luke Shaw has signed a new four-year deal with Manchester United. 

The England left-back, who became the most expensive teenager in history when he moved to Old Trafford from Southampton in 2014, has been rewarded for his impressive displays under Erik ten Hag this term. 

Shaw, 27, said: "Nine years ago, I signed for this amazing club and I'm thrilled to be extending my stay.

"I've grown immensely since coming to Manchester all those years ago, both as a person and as a player. I know what is needed to succeed at a club like this. 

"We're at the beginning of our journey under the manager and his coaching staff. We've been successful already this season but we want much more. 

"There's a great opportunity to create something special here and I'm going to give everything to be part of that."

Shaw was in Ten Hag's starting XI as United beat Newcastle 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final in February. 

Theatre of screams

Thomas Frank is confident Brentford can cause Manchester United more problems at Old Trafford tomorrow. 

The Bees thumped Erik ten Hag’s men 4-0 at home last August. 

And while Frank knows the return fixture will be a tough assignment, the Dane insists his side will play with no fear at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Bees boss, 49, said: "I know it will be unbelievably difficult. They will come flying out and fighting for every single ball. 

"They'll be showing unbelievable determination, they'll be on top of everything and their skill set is absolutely frightening when you look at the players they have in their squad. 

"It will be difficult but we believe in ourselves that we can do something."

Hammer blow

West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca has suffered another blow in his stop-start first season in England. 

The Italian forward, a £35million summer signing from Sassuolo, was openly criticised by boss David Moyes recently because he was not at a level to play games.

Scamacca, 24, has also been dropped by his representatives and is in danger of losing his place in the Italy squad. 

And Moyes has now revealed the striker is sidelined by a knee injury that may require surgery. 

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's home game with Newcastle, Moyes said: "Scamacca's got two weeks of rehabilitation on his knee at the moment. 

"We think it doesn't need surgery at the moment but we just need to see how the next two weeks go."

Right Royal mess

Reading have been plunged into the Championship relegation battle after being hit by a six-point deduction under the EFL's financial rules. 

The sanction relates to the club's failure to meet an agreed budget following an earlier breach of the profit and sustainability limits in 2021. 

Despite the club's best efforts to comply with rigorous cost-cutting measures, they have accepted falling short and now face "a huge fight" to stay up having dropped from 46 points to 40. 

A statement from the Royals said: "In abiding by EFL rules, the club have not spent a penny on transfer fees since the summer of 2020 and have not paid a loan fee to any club since the summer of 2019.

"Our squad has been entirely rebuilt from free transfers, free loanees and academy graduates. 

"Despite the substantial progress we have undeniably made and the lessons that have indeed been learned, as promised, we accept that the situation was never going to be easily or quickly fixed."
