England star Mead wins Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament
England forward Beth Mead has been named European Championship Player of the Tournament and won the Golden Boot.
The Arsenal forward, 27, scored six goals and assisted five for her Lionesses team-mates as they won their first international tournament, beating Germany 2-1 in the final.
Although Mead did not net in Sunday's dramatic victory over the eight-time winners, she clinched the Golden Boot — awarded to the competition's top scorer.
Speaking after the match, the 27-year-old Arsenal star said: "I can't believe it.
"Sometimes football puts you down but bouncing back is the best way. I'm speechless, I can't take it all in.
"I'm in shock. I've had a good cry with my mum and dad. I am so proud of this team, I love this team and I love this country!"
Gunners legend Ian Wright added: "I can't put into words how much work has gone into this. I'm so proud, I can't believe it!
"Beth has come back after missing the Olympics. The Beth Mead revenge tour is over.
"Player of the Tournament and Golden Boot winner. Brilliant."
Mead's nearest rival for the top scorer gong, Germany's Alexandra Popp, was also on six goals prior to the final.
But the 31-year-old ace was forced to pull out prior to kick-off with injury.
Mead pipped the Wolfsburg forward to the title of top scorer thanks to her five assists. Popp did not register any.
