Derby looked to be heading for victory thanks to Kayden Jackson’s goal at Luton on Friday, only for the hosts to score two very late goals and break County hearts.

West Brom extended their unbeaten home run to seven games with Sunday’s 2-0 win against Bristol City, with Michael Johnston helping himself to a brace for the Baggies.

Team news

Derby will have a quartet of injured players on the sidelines, with Eiran Cashin, Jake Rooney, Ryan Nyambe and David Ozoh all out.

Paddy McNair and Grady Diagnana were both back on the bench for West Brom when they beat Bristol City over the weekend and are options to start on Boxing Day.

Semi Ajayi, Callum Styles and Daryl Dike are all out until the New Year for the Baggies with injuries.

The stats

Paul Warne has Derby comfortably above the relegation zone
Paul Warne has Derby comfortably above the relegation zone

Derby have won just one of their last eight games, drawing three and losing four.

West Brom have lost just one of their last 14 outings, though they have drawn 10 of those matches, winning three.

Paul Warne’s team enjoyed a 4-0 victory against Portsmouth in their last home outing, ending a run of four games at Pride Park without a win.

The Baggies’ recent 2-1 defeat to Watford was their first away loss for six games.

Prediction

Derby will be looking to bounce back after losing the lead against Luton, in a match in which they conceded first in the 89th minute then again in the 92nd.

They came close to grabbing a second successive victory following their 4-0 thrashing of Portsmouth at Pride Park, which was something of a fortress at the start of the season, but has long since ceased to be.

West Brom have their own problems with consistency, with Carlos Corberan’s side having not won consecutively since September.

The Baggies have only lost three times this season, which is a record comparable with the likes of Sheffield United, Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland, but wins have been hard to come by, with no team having drawn more games in the Championship.

West Brom have the talent to win this match against a team promoted to the second-tier in the summer, but it makes sense to back them cautiously, considering their penchant for stalemates.
