- Coventry are down in 20th place with just three wins so far
- West Brom have won three of their last five games
- Recommended bet: West Brom to win

West Brom look good value to secure an away win at Coventry when the two sides meet in Monday's West Midlands derby in the Championship.

The Sky Blues have lost their last two games without scoring and sit just above the relegation zone, while the Baggies have shown steady improvement in recent weeks, winning three of their last five in the second tier.

Team news

Mark Robins is expected to recall forward Haji Wright with either Ellis Simms or Matt Godden dropping out of the Coventry XI.

Callum O'Hare is making good progress as he builds up his match fitness following his long lay-off but he is unlikely to feature for the hosts, while Liam Kelly, Jamie Allen and Kasey Palmer are all still out.

Cedric Kipre has suffered a knee injury for the Baggies but the prognosis is not as bad as was first feared and he may only be out for a few weeks.

Pipa or Darnell Furlong are the obvious candidates to replace him at centre-back against the Sky Blues, but boss Carlos Corberan is otherwise expected to keep changes to a minimum.

The stats

Matthew Godden has impressed for Coventry so far this season with five goals in 13 games.

John Swift is West Brom's top-scorer with six goals in 11 Championship outings.

The Baggies are currently top of the disciplinary table in the Championship, having picked up just 22 bookings and no red cards in total so far.

Both of last season's games between these two Midlands rivals finished 1-0 — Coventry winning at home in December and Albion edging the return game at The Hawthorns in February.

Prediction

West Brom have legitimate ambitions to muscle in on the promotion picture this season as they sit just three points off the top six in a typically congested table.

Corberan's side do look good enough to at least stay around the play-off places and have several players performing well, including Swift, Matt Phillips and Darnell Furlong.

Coventry famously exceeded expectations to make the play-off final last season and were only spot-kicks away from a sensational return to the Premier League.

Mark Robins' astute management came to the fore as he battled superbly while working with a tight budget but things have not gone so well so far this season.

Coventry have won just three of their 13 league games and a place in and around mid-table may be the best they can eventually hope for this term.

With the visitors enjoying solid wins over Preston, Sheffield Wednesday and QPR of late, a trip to the Coventry Building Society Arena should not hold too many fears and West Brom can secure another three points on the road.
