Diego Simeone's Atletico have won their last six games, which includes 3-1 win over Real Madrid

- Both teams have scored in Celtic's last four matches
- Atletico Madrid have won their last six matches
- Recommended bet: Atletico Madrid to win and both teams to score

Celtic have been in dominant form domestically but their struggles in the Champions League have continued, losing their opening two games against Lazio and Feyenoord.

They face a tough task in their third clash as they host Group E leaders Atletico Madrid, who have won their last six games in all competitions.

Team news

Liel Abada and Stephen Welsh remain out for Celtic and the Bhoys look likely to field a similar side to the one that beat Hearts 4-1 at the weekend.

Atletico have plenty of injury issues of their own, with Samuel Lino, Angel Correa, Thomas Lemar, Pablo Barrios and Jose Gimenez set to miss out through injury.

Caglar Soyuncu returned to full fitness recently and came off the bench against Celta Vigo, so is likely to feature here.

The stats

Brendan Rodgers' Celtic have lost two out of two in the Champions League

There has been plenty of goalmouth action for these teams recently, seven of Atletico Madrid's last nine matches have featured at least three goals.

Five of Celtic’s last eight Champions League clashes have seen both teams score and the Bhoys lose.

Atletico have lost one of their 11 matches in all competitions this season.

Antoine Griezmann has scored seven league goals this season after his weekend hat-trick and is behind only Jude Bellingham in the LaLiga scoring charts.

Prediction

Celtic’s recent history in the Champions League will not give their fans much confidence that they can get a result against Atletico Madrid, who have won six on the bounce.

The Hoops took two points from a possible 18 in last season’s group stages and have opened this term’s campaign with a defeat away to Feyenoord in which they were reduced to nine men and a last-gasp loss to Lazio.

Atleti drew 1-1 with the Italian side in their opening clash before seeing off Feyenoord 3-2 in an end-to-end match-up.

Diego Simeone’s men are three points off the LaLiga leaders Real Madrid with a game in hand and pose a major threat to the hosts in this European match.

Celtic do seem to be progressing under Brendan Rodgers with the return of a number of their best players from injury a real plus.

The Bhoys have won six on the spin in the league but this step up to Europe’s top table has proven a bridge too far recently.

They were unlucky not to get more out of the Lazio defeat, with a Luis Palma goal disallowed before the visitors netted a late winner.

Celtic can get on the scoresheet in this matchup, but Atleti’s overall quality may be too much for them and they look likely to fall to another defeat.
