F1 fans have been treated to three successive close finishes and the competitive action looks set to continue in the British Grand Prix this weekend.

Tensions are high after world champion Max Verstappen clashed with Lando Norris in the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, allowing George Russell to give Mercedes their first win of the season, and no quarter is likely to be given in the battle at the front at Silverstone.

Fears that Red Bull and Max Verstappen would dominate the 2024 F1 season as they have in the last two years have been dispelled and four teams have victories on the board after 11 races.

McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes - who were successful in Austria through George Russell on Sunday - have four wins between them and the British team's Lando Norris has gone close to adding to his victory in the Miami Grand Prix on several occasions.

Norris looks a value bet to win his home race for the first time at odds of 3/1 with LiveScore Bet as his car should go well around the fast curves of the Northamptonshire circuit.

Norris was less than a second behind Verstappen at Imola, 3.8 seconds behind him in Canada and 2.2 seconds behind the Dutch driver in Spain after taking pole.

He was attempting to take the lead in Spielberg on Sunday when Verstappen's aggressive defence took them both out of contention for victory and his second career success looks overdue.

Verstappen won the race last season, having also been successful in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone in 2020, but his record at the circuit is not as strong as at many other tracks on the calendar.

With a threat of rain, particularly on race day, there are enough potential pitfalls to pass over the short odds for Verstappen to win in Britain and Norris could go one better than his second place last year.

For a second bet on the race, consider Esteban Ocon to finish in the top 10 for Alpine. The French team have raised their game over the last month or so after a slow start to the season, scoring six points finishes in the last four races.

Pierre Gasly has delivered four of those but will lose out on track time this week as Australian reserve driver Jack Doohan takes his car for the first practice session, and his team-mate Esteban Ocon has a strong record at Silverstone.

Ocon has finished in the points every time he has completed the race at Silverstone, finishing eighth and seventh at the track in two races with Force India in 2017 and 2018, sixth and eighth in the back-to-back races there for Renault in the 2020 season and ninth for Alpine in 2021. 

A fuel pump problem and an oil leak have ended his race early in Britain over the last two seasons, but Ocon also won at Silverstone in Formula 3 and has an affinity for the fast circuit.
