John Eustace has vowed to give his all after replacing Jon Dahl Tomasson as Blackburn's head coach.

Rovers moved quickly to appoint Eustace after a drop in form and repeated disagreements with the club's owners saw Tomasson leave by mutual consent.

The Championship strugglers are without a win in eight league games, falling to 18th in the table, and in danger of relegation to League One.

And they have turned to the former Coventry and Watford star, who was last in work at fellow Championship club Birmingham before controversially being replaced by Wayne Rooney in October.

Eustace, 44, said: "I am delighted to be the new head coach of such a fantastic football club as Blackburn Rovers, which has such a proud history and tradition within the game.

"I am excited for this new challenge in my career and can't wait to get started.

"I am looking forward to being at Ewood Park tomorrow and meeting the supporters, who can play a big part for us between now and the end of the season.

"I will give my all to ensure the fans have a team they can be proud of and, together, I hope we can quickly start climbing the table."

Prior to his time in the Midlands, Eustace enjoyed two spells as QPR's interim boss and was assistant to Stephen Kelly with the Irish national team.

Departing Tomasson, 47, had grown frustrated by the exits of several key players in recent windows, with midfielder Adam Wharton sold to Crystal Palace in a £22million deal on deadline day earlier this month.

A move to bring in United States forward Duncan McGuire from Orlando City then fell through in the final hours due to an administrative error, leaving the Dane further disillusioned.

Rovers said: "Jon Dahl Tomasson has today left his position as head coach by mutual consent.

"Tomasson brought an attacking brand of football that saw us go close to a play-off spot last season, while also progressing to the latter stages of both domestic cup competitions.

"However, it has been mutually agreed that the Dane will step away."
