Billy Sharp bags dramatic Doncaster winner against Fleetwood
Billy Sharp’s stoppage-time winner saw Doncaster edge past Fleetwood 2-1 at the Eco-Power Stadium.
Matty Virtue came off the bench for Fleetwood to cancel out Owen Bailey’s opener for Doncaster in a tight affair with a share of the spoils looking likely as the second half wore on.
It proved to be a first half of few chances until Rovers broke the deadlock after 44 minutes.
James Maxwell sent in an excellent cross from the left which was met at the back post by a surging Bailey, who headed into the far corner.
The hosts started the second half the stronger but were pegged back after 62 minutes as substitute Virtue capitalised on a mistake from George Broadbent and finished emphatically from 20 yards.
Doncaster showed the greater intent to find a winner but struggled to test opposition keeper Jay Lynch.
But Rovers snatched the three points two minutes into added time as Sharp pounced on a flick-on from Joseph Olowu to side-foot in at the far post.
