Bayern Munich entertain Real Madrid in a heavyweight Champions League semi-final showdown on Tuesday.

The record 14-time European champions have all but secured the LaLiga title and head to Germany after knocking out holders Manchester City.

Now Carlo Ancelotti and his players have their eyes on lifting the biggest club prize in the continent once again.

Bayern will be tough opponents in the last four, of course, but Los Blancos can avoid defeat at the Allianz Arena to give them a great chance of reaching yet another European Cup final.

Team news

Bayern are still without the injured Kingsley Coman, Sacha Boey, Gabriel Marusic, Tarek Buchmann and Bouna Sarr, while several players are rated as doubtful for the visit of Real.

Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Dayot Upamecano, Konrad Laimer, Matthijs de Ligt and Jamal Musiala have all been carrying injuries and knocks of late so must all be checked ahead of Tuesday's clash.

Canada international Alphonso Davies is available again after serving his one-match suspension in the last round against Arsenal.

Real expect England star Jude Bellingham to be fit after a recent bout of illness, while Rodrygo and Ferland Mendy should both also return to the visitors' starting line-up.

Thibaut Courtois and David Alaba are still out injured, while Dani Carvajal is suspended for the visitors so Lucas Vazquez is primed to start at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern are unbeaten in their last five games in total, winning four on the trot ahead of the meeting with Real.

Real are on an 18-game unbeaten run in all competitions ahead of the first leg.

This will be the eighth time the two European giants have met in a Champions League or European Cup semi-final with Madrid winning five of the last six games between the two, with the other being a draw.

Overall, the two clubs have met 26 times competitively in this competition and there have been 12 Real Madrid victories, 11 Bayern Munich wins and just three draws.

Prediction

Bayern edged out Arsenal in the previous round, winning 1-0 at home after drawing 2-2 at the Emirates, and Thomas Tuchel’s men will be seeking a first-leg advantage as they know a daunting trip to the Bernabeu awaits next week.

However, Real are masters of getting results in this competition when they need it most and they have a manger in Ancelotti who has the nous and experience to set them up to once again avoid defeat on the road.

They are likely to have to defend in numbers for periods, just like they did at the Etihad, but they will not worry about that and are more than capable of then hitting Bayern, who are not as well rounded a team as City, on the break.

These semis can be tight, tense affairs in the first leg — 12 months ago Real were held 1-1 by City in the first game in the last four — and that is a result away from home this time that Ancelotti would probably take.

Overall, Real can avoid defeat in Bavaria at least as they look to set up a final appearance at Wembley on June 1 against either PSG or Borussia Dortmund.
