Mikel Arteta has been close to delivering the Premier League title

- Arsenal have finished runner-up in the past two seasons
- The Gunners boasted the best defensive record in the 2023-24 campaign
- Recommended bet:
Arsenal to win the league (without Manchester City)

Arsenal will be hoping it is third-time lucky in their pursuit of 2024-25 Premier League glory, after being edged out by Manchester City in the last two campaigns.

Mikel Arteta has been desperately close to deliver top-flight glory and he will be hoping his side can find that extra edge to get themselves over the line this term.

Last season

Arsenal had to settle for second for the second season in a row in 2023-24, finishing two points behind the Citizens.

It was another near-miss for the Gunners, who buckled under the pressure as the campaign got to the business end.

The manager

Arteta's stock has continued to grow since he took charge at the Emirates and back-to-back runner-up finishes show just how close he has this squad to landing the Premier League trophy.

However, until the Spanish tactician manages to deliver the top-flight title, there will still be questions marks over his ability to keep the team focused and guide them over the line.

The 42-year-old has won one FA Cup and two Community Shields during his time at the helm.

Transfers

Despite boasting the best defensive record in the division last season, Arteta was intent on adding to his options at the back and the club have brought in centre-back Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

The Gunners still look like they need some attacking reinforcements and they continue to be linked with Brentford's Ivan Toney, though the rumours have settled down on this transfer.

In terms of departures, Cedric Soares and Mohamed Elneny have both left this summer, while Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga have completed loan exits.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Arsenal were excellent in defence last season – conceding a league-low 29 goals – and the addition of Calafiori will add further strength and provide competition for places.

Declan Rice brings good control to the midfield and he should play another pivotal role, although any injury to the England international would leave the Gunners a little short.

There are still doubts over goalkeeper David Raya, who made some glaring errors in the 2023-24 campaign and that could be an area that comes back to haunt Arteta.

Arsenal also lack a prolific striker. They do not have an Erling Haaland at their disposal and this is an area that they will surely have to look at before the transfer window closes.

Best outright bet

Arsenal still lack strength in depth in certain areas and if they fail to bring in the necessary reinforcements, it could be another season where they are edged out by Manchester City.

The Gunners will hope to have learned lessons over the past couple of years but there is still a niggling doubt surrounding their mental strength to get the better of the Citizens.

With that in mind the safer play here is to back Arsenal to win the league in the without Manchester City market, which they are priced at 4/5 with LiveScore Bet.

Liverpool are set for a season of transition under Arne Slot and the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle are still not title-worthy contenders, so Arteta's troops should have enough to finish above them, but not City.
