The Champions League action heads to Switzerland on Wednesday when Young Boys face the daunting visit of European holders Manchester City.

City have won their opening two matches to sit top of Group G and another three points would edge them closer to guaranteeing their place in the knockout stages.

As for Young Boys, they followed a 3-1 home loss to RB Leipzig with a 2-2 draw at Crvena Zvezda and are now preparing to take on City in back-to-back European fixtures.

Team news

City’s only absentee is Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne, who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury that is expected to keep him out until at least the New Year.

Malik Deme and Kastriot Imeri both missed Young Boys' draw against Zurich at the weekend and it is unclear whether the duo will be available for selection.

Raphael Wicky's Young Boys were beaten 3-1 by RB Leipzig in their first Champions League home game

The stats

City are on a 15-game unbeaten run in the Champions League, last tasting defeat against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on 4th May, 2022.

Pep Guardiola’s side have not kept a clean sheet in their last six away matches across all competitions and have conceded in each of their last four Champions League fixtures on the road.

Young Boys have conceded five goals in their two Group G games, picking up just one point, but they have managed to find the back of the three times.

The Swiss outfit played City’s rivals Manchester United in the 2021-22 Champions League, beating the Red Devils at home before drawing at Old Trafford.

Prediction

City were on the rails domestically before the international break, losing three games in a row, but they returned to action with a 2-1 victory over Brighton on Saturday.

That was a confidence-boosting victory for a team who are almost at full strength and Guardiola will be eager to see his side push on from that result against Young Boys.

Raphael Wicky's troops have been impressive in the Swiss Super League, as they sit second, but City provide a much sterner test and they are unlikely to come out of this one with a positive result.

However, that is not to say the hosts will not cause City problems and the defensive record of the visitors suggest both teams will get on the scoresheet.

The reigning European champions have kept just one clean sheet from their seven away assignments this season, while they have failed to keep a shutout in their last five fixtures.
