Chelsea boss Emma Hayes says "maintaining that hunger" is her side’s biggest challenge this season.

The Blues, bidding for a fifth successive Women’s Super League title, opened their campaign with a 2-1 home win against Tottenham last week and play at Manchester City in a Sunday lunchtime kick-off.

Hayes said: "The most important thing is that the motivation in the dressing room is there day in, day out regardless of the result.

"If you have that then it’s where you finish at the end that is going to matter. We have a really hungry dressing room.

"Everyone wants to play and everyone is good enough to play. For us, the challenge is maintaining that hunger when we can only pick 11 players every week."

Chelsea will be boosted by the return to action of Sam Kerr following a calf problem, while fellow striker Khadija Shaw is poised to return from injury for City, who won 2-0 at West Ham in their opening WSL match.

Liverpool boss Matt Beard has challenged his players to follow up their surprise opening-day win at Arsenal in front of a new record WSL crowd of 54,115 at the Emirates Stadium with a home victory over Aston Villa.

Beard said: "It was a really good team performance. We know we have got that in the locker. For me it is about the consistency and what we do now.

"We can't have that one week and then the other week just be OK. That’s the one thing we need to ensure we get by this season."

Villa are looking to bounce back from their 2-1 opening-day defeat to Manchester United at Villa Park.

Tottenham are hoping to register their first points of the season in head coach Robert Vilahamn's first home game in charge against Bristol City, who lost 4-2 at Ashton Gate to Leicester last week.

Brighton, who were involved in a relegation fight last season, aim to build on their promising 4-2 win at Everton in their opening home match against West Ham.

Everton head to the King Power Stadium to take on Willie Kirk’s Leicester, who were top of the table after the first round of fixtures.
