WSL Matchday 5 round-up: Hayes claims Chelsea finally look like champions
Departing head coach Emma Hayes was delighted with Chelsea's performance as they thrashed Aston Villa 6-0 in the Women's Super League on Saturday.
The 47-year-old revealed she will be leaving the Blues at the end of the season but is adamant that her full focus remains on the 2023-24 campaign.
Reigning champions Chelsea had six different scorers as they returned to the top of the table with England internationals Millie Bright, Fran Kirby and Niamh Charles among the names on the scoresheet.
Speaking to club website, Hayes said: "We were mustard! I thought we were simply superb.
"I'm really excited. We've got some really talented players and talented young players coming through and I think you could see it in full view.
"I enjoyed it from start to finish. I felt like we were a team in control, we looked like champions. But we're evolving, that's the thing I enjoy about this side."
Take your chances
Robert Vilahamn vented his frustrations after Tottenham were held by Everton on Sunday.
Spurs looked on course to pick up their fourth win of the season after Grace Clinton headed the hosts into the lead but Aurora Galli rescued a point for the Toffees with a strike from the penalty spot.
Speaking to SPURSPLAY, Vilahamn said: "It's always tough when you don't score that second goal. We need to learn how to be sharper in some situations.
"It's a learning process for all of the players. We need to learn as a team as well — it's the third penalty we’ve given away [this season], so we need to be better there.
"We need to look at this game and how we can solve the last third a little bit better in some situations and how we can make sure we get a little bit sharper in our finishing.
"That said, we create chances, we have the ball and do some good stuff so I'm not worried — it's more how we can actually finish those chances with a goal."
Robbed in London
Head coach Gareth Taylor feels Manchester City were robbed against Arsenal after a late Stina Blackstenius goal gave the North London hosts all three points.
City had the chance to go level on points with leaders Chelsea but instead were handed their first loss of the season by Jonas Eidevall's side.
Taylor said: "We should've won the game, absolutely. It was a similar story to last season. We created so many chances and have to be better at the top end.
"I thought the performance was very good, we dominated. There was only one team looking likely to win but we have to be better in those areas.
"We feel a little bit robbed but I've always said to the players, it's on us. We've beaten ourselves.
"It's a setback but we move on. The performance was very good in terms of a lot of the things we did."
