Despite Chelsea’s troubles last term, they were only beaten home and away by one side — Wolves. The Blues lost 2-1 at Molineux on Christmas eve before suffering a 4-2 home defeat in February.

Those defeats contributed to Mauricio Pochettino’s departure and now new boss Enzo Maresca is searching for his first Premier League victory. Will they fall short against Wolves once again?

Team news

Wolves put in an encouraging display at Arsenal last weekend despite their 2-0 defeat. They are unlikely to make major changes as a result, although full-back Nelson Semedo is returning from suspension and should feature.

Publicidad

For Chelsea, Maresca has made it clear to around half of his squad that they are not in his plans. The new Blues boss made nine changes for their midweek Conference League victory, but they should return to largely the same side that started against Manchester City.

New signing Joao Felix could make his second debut for Chelsea.

The stats

Enzo Maresca has a job on his hands turning around Chelsea's disappointing away record from last season

Chelsea won just seven of 19 away games last season.

Publicidad

The Blues have won just one of the last six meetings between these sides.

Wolves have won three and drawn one of their last four home meetings with Chelsea.

The Blues conceded first in 11 of their 19 away games last season.

The visitors’ last win at Molineux came almost five years ago.

Prediction

Chelsea claimed a 2-0 victory over Servette in midweek, but that win did not come easy.

The Blues were booed off by their own fans at half-time in Maresca’s second game in charge. They failed to click going forward and conceded too many chances to the Swiss side.

That display is a concern ahead of this return to Premier League action. Maresca’s style has not gone down well with the fans already and there have been teething problems in their first two games.

While Maresca’s side are expected to get their first win of the campaign, this has not been a happy hunting ground for the Blues.

They have lost on three of their last four visits to Molineux, while the Blues have won only once across the last six meetings between these two sides.

Chelsea have lost the last three meetings between the sides, while they won just seven times on the road last term.

Publicidad

Maresca is still trying to get his team to settle and Wolves looked good at times in their loss at Arsenal.

The hosts should be able to take advantage of a chaotic Chelsea side and they are great value for a victory, particularly with the safety net of draw no bet.
