Turkey and Wales are both in strong positions in their pursuit of promotion to Nations League Group A but this encounter will go a long way to deciding who seals their progress automatically.

Turkey currently sit top of Nations League Group B4 but they are only two points clear of Wales, who will be eyeing a vital victory that would see them leapfrog the Crescent Stars into pole position.

All hope will not be lost for Wales even with defeat, as they still find themselves four points clear of third-placed Iceland with only two matches remaining.

It was a nervy, goalless draw that lacked much attacking spark in the reverse fixture at the Cardiff City Stadium at the start of September, but it should be a more entertaining encounter this time around in Kayseri.

Team news

Turkey must do without centre-back Emirhan Topcu and centre-forward Ahmed Kutucu but they otherwise have a fully-fit squad to choose from.

Publicidad

Wales can welcome back Leeds winger Daniel James but Aaron Ramsey, Ethan Ampadu and Ollie Cooper are all missing through injury.

Kieffer Moore, Wes Burns, Owen Beck and Nathan Broadhead have also pulled out of the squad for Saturday's game.

The stats

Turkey have won three straight games in the Nations League, beating Iceland twice and Montenegro.

The Crescent Stars have lost only two of their last 13 internationals on home soil.

Wales have won only two of their last 12 away matches.

Publicidad

Both teams have scored in each of Wales’ last five away matches in the Nations League.

Eight of Turkey’s last 10 international matches have had over 2.5 goals.

Prediction

This is a massive match in terms of finishing top of Nations League Group B4 and, with Wales missing some key names, home advantage should prove crucial for Turkey.

Wales have been rejuvenated since Craig Bellamy was appointed boss ahead of the September international break and they are unbeaten in four Nations League outings, having amassed eight points.

However, this is by a long way their toughest test under Bellamy and, while they did hold Turkey to a goalless draw at home two months ago, the visitors had been reduced to 10 men and are a different beast on their own patch.

Turkey have won three straight Nations League matches since and they created a strong impression at Euro 2024, where they defeated the Czech Republic and Austria before bumping into the Netherlands.

Wales have had plenty of recent struggles on their travels - they have won two of their last 12 away internationals - and this looks like another daunting trip for them to Kayseri.
