Newcastle are locked in negotiations to sign Nicolo Barella from Inter Milan. 

The Italian maestro enjoyed a superb 2022-23 season, helping the Nerrazzuri win a domestic double and reach the Champions League final.

Barella, 26, scored nine goals and assisted nine more across all competitions, further establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe.

His current deal at the San Siro runs until 2026.

Sky Sports report that Newcastle have made contact with Inter over a £50million move and are said to be hopeful of getting a deal over the line.

Eddie Howe is a big fan of the Euro 2020 winner and he could give the Magpies a huge boost for their Champions League adventure next season.

The Tyneside club are also still interested in bringing Leicester playmaker James Maddison to St James' Park this summer.

However, they face competition from Tottenham for the England international, who has just one year remaining on his contract.
