A key match in the top half of the table is set to take place on Sunday as Tottenham take on Liverpool in North London.

Spurs are looking to push themselves towards the Champions League places, while the visitors need to maintain their title challenge and keep pace with Manchester City.

The Reds have dominated this fixture in recent years, including a victory in the 2019 Champions League final.

Check out our combined XI — who line up in a 4-2-2-2 formation — below and let us know if you agree with our selections.

Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris (Tottenham)

World Cup winner and Spurs captain Hugo Lloris pips Alisson to the goalkeeper spot by the smallest of margins.

The Frenchman has been more consistent than the Brazilian this season, despite keeping three fewer clean sheets.

Alisson has let in some soft goals for Liverpool this term, whereas Lloris has been Spurs' saviour on many occasions — he wins out in this instance.

Right-back: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Trent Alexander-Arnold is regarded as one of the best full-backs in Europe due to his outstanding form of late.

The England international has provided seven assists from 15 games in the Premier League this season — an exceptional return.

The 23-year-old scored a wonderful goal against Newcastle in Liverpool's 3-1 win on Thursday and beats Emerson Royal to the right-back spot.

Centre-back: Cristian Romero (Tottenham)

Although the Argentine is out of action until the new year, Cristian Romero was excellent in the early stages of the season and therefore earns his spot in our combined XI.

Spurs' summer signing is known for his aggressive nature and the defender stood out in an average setup under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Joel Matip may have a case for a place in this team but Romero has proven his worth for his new club this season.

Cristian Romero has been an excellent addition to the Tottenham defence

Centre-back: Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Virgil van Dijk is another Liverpool player who can be regarded as one of the best in the world in their positions.

The Dutchman has been key in helping the Reds keep 10 clean sheets this campaign with Manchester City the only side able to keep pace.

His commanding presence and excellent defensive attributes see the 2019 Ballon d'Or runner-up slot into the defence in our combined XI.

Left-back: Andrew Robertson (Liverpool)

Andrew Robertson is another easy selection due to his role in helping the Reds defensively, as well as his attacking contributions.

The flying Scotsman faced some competition from Kostas Tsimikas earlier in the season but his performances have seen the Greek international demoted to the bench.

Sergio Reguilon may have been in with a shout for this position but the Spaniard has not shown enough consistency to challenge the Champions League winner for his spot.

Centre midfield: Thiago (Liverpool)

The performances of Oliver Skipp for Spurs this season may have given the youngster a shot at one of the midfield positions but Thiago's ability is too valuable to ignore.

The Spaniard has won the favour of Jurgen Klopp this season and has featured 11 times in the Premier League.

His sublime strike against Porto in the Champions League demonstrates his worth in our combined XI.

Centre midfield: Fabinho (Liverpool)

Despite being sidelined alongside Van Dijk after contracting coronavirus, Fabinho easily beats out Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in this instance.

The Brazilian has been a colossus for the Reds and has only lost 11 games out of the 98 he has appeared in.

Fabinho is always looking to win the ball back and his 197 tackles over four Premier League seasons make him the perfect defensive midfielder.

Attacking midfield: Heung-Min Son (Tottenham)

Heung-Min Son is a no-brainer for our attack — the South Korean is exceptionally talented and can play in multiple positions on the pitch.

His six goals this campaign are tame in comparison to what he could achieve, with the forward netting 17 times in the league last season.

Nevertheless, Son is a worthy addition to our combined XI — he is one of many world-class talents to be included.

Attacking midfield: Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Sadio Mane finds himself on the left of our attacking setup — the speedster has seven league goals and one assist to his name this season.

The Senegal international has been sensational since his move from Southampton in 2016 and his superb performances earned him fourth spot in the 2019 Ballon d'Or.

His attacking prowess overshadows that of Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn as we piece together a fearsome attacking quartet.

Striker: Harry Kane (Tottenham)

Despite his impressive form for England, Harry Kane is yet to hit the goal trail in North London this term

It would be fair to admit that Harry Kane has not been performing at his best this season having scored just once for Spurs in the Premier League.

But his world-class ability makes him a must-have in this combined XI, despite the best efforts of Diogo Jota.

Kane's all-round play has been much improved since the arrival of Antonio Conte, he is only lacking the finishing touch — but there is a sense that once he gets the first goal, many more will follow.

Striker: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Rounding off our combined XI is Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

His form in 2021 has been mighty — the Egyptian has 24 goal contributions in his last 17 Premier League games.

While his future remains uncertain, his ability puts him in the bracket of the top five players in Europe, meaning he walks into our side.
