Swansea to win

The Championship campaigns of both Swansea and Preston started with opening-day defeats and neither will want to make it two losses from two at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The Swans limped to a 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough in their Championship curtain-raiser while Preston suffered a 2-0 reverse at home to Sheffield United.

That defeat for the Lilywhites called time on the services of manager Ryan Lowe, with Preston having also lost their final five games of the previous campaign.

Mike Marsh has been appointed as Preston’s interim manager and his tenure started positively as the Lancashire club recorded a 2-0 victory at home to Sunderland in the opening round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

The Swans, meanwhile, were 3-1 winners at home to League Two side Gillingham and that should have restored their confidence levels ahead of this much-anticipated Championship clash.

Team news

Swansea goalkeeper Andy Fisher is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a groin injury, so Lawrence Vigouroux is currently first choice between the sticks.

Joe Allen is still recovering from an injury and is set to miss out alongside Josh Ginnelly, Sam Parker, and Aimar Govea.

Preston’s Ali McCann will miss out picking up an injury in pre-season while Layton Stewart is set to return after missing the first two games.

Meanwhile, new signing Jeppe Okkels, who arrived from FC Utrecht for an undisclosed fee, could make his debut.

The stats

It has hardly been an ideal start to the season for Preston with Ryan Lowe departing after the opening defeat

The last six meetings between these sides have been won by the hosts and both teams have scored in the last three encounters.

Publicidad

Preston have lost their last six Championship clashes, failing to score on every occasion.

Swansea have won four of their last six Championship home games while Preston are winless in five away league matches, firing blanks each time.

Both teams have scored in only two of Swansea’s last 11 Championship fixtures and four of their last five home games in the Championship have ended with under 2.5 goals.

Prediction

Preston are in a far from ideal position as they go on the hunt for a new manager following Lowe’s early-season departure and they may remain winless in this season’s Championship following their trip to Wales.

There was little encouragement to take from North End’s 2-0 loss at home to Sheffield United last Friday and while they have since responded with an EFL Cup success over Sunderland, the Black Cats fielded a much weakened side.

So, having lost their last six Championship matches without scoring, Preston have plenty to prove away at Swansea, who still look capable of progressing under manager Luke Williams.

Williams is determined to make his possession-based approach work with the Swans and they were far from disgraced in their 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough, who are widely regarded as promotion contenders.
