Draw or Stoke Double Chance

It is one defeat in six for Sheffield Wednesday who find themselves looking up at the play-off places rather than over their shoulder at the bottom three as they await the visit of Stoke City in the Championship.

In contrast, a run of no wins in seven has sent the Potters tumbling towards the relegation places and they need the boost of a win, or at least a draw at Hillsborough.

Team news

Wednesday are minus only defender Akin Famewo, who has been out for a while and is not yet close to a return.

Exciting Dutch winger Million Manhoef is a doubt for the visitors, while striker Sam Gallagher is in line for his first start in over two months after recovering from injury.

Defender Enda Stevens could also secure a recall if Narcis Pelach decides to make a change.

The stats

The Owls have won only one of their last seven matches at Hillsborough and they have secured 13 points at home this season, three fewer than they have earned away from home.

Wednesday have won 14 points from losing positions this season, coming from behind to either win or draw in six of their last 13 league matches. Stoke, in contrast, have given up 15 points from winning positions.

The Potters have drawn seven of their last 13 Championship matches and they have been drawing at half-time in a divisional high 12 matches. Wednesday have been level at the interval on 11 occasions.

Prediction

It has been a turbulent week at Hillsborough with speculation that Danny Rohl is being linked with the vacant job at Premier League strugglers Southampton.

Publicidad

Owls' fans will hardly be surprised given the favourable impression that German Rohl has made in his time at South Yorkshire, having arrived at the club in October 2023.

Were he to leave this week he would bequeath a side on a run of just one defeat in six, fresh from a tasty 3-1 comeback success at Oxford United and on the periphery of the Championship play-off conversation.

But while that form clearly stands up to scrutiny against Stoke's – no wins in seven for the Potters – this division is just too unpredictbale, with draws unfolding in huge numbers.

Narcis Pelach's Potters have drawn seven of their last 13 league games, including last time out, when they earned a 2-2 draw against Cardiff City.

While their seven-game winless streak is disappointing, four of those seven matches have ended in draws and two of the three losses were against promotion-chasing duo Burnley and Sunderland.
