Phil Foden said Manchester City always believed they could come from behind to see off Everton.

The champions survived another Premier League scare as second-half goals from Foden, Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva cancelled out Jack Harrison's in a 3-1 victory.

City — who have just returned from winning the Club World Cup — moved back into the top four after winning their second straight away game in which they have conceded first.

Foden, 23, told Amazon Prime: "I thought we played really well in the first half and it seems to have been the same story as previous games.

"The manager just said to believe in ourselves at half-time because we're a top team.

"In the second half, wow. I think we blew them away with the way we played.

"I want to praise Everton because I think they've been doing really well recently and are a top side.

"They make it difficult. I'm really happy with the result. It's a difficult place to come."

City remain five points adrift of Liverpool in the title race, albeit having played a game less.

But Foden suggested the Treble winners are getting closer to clicking into gear as a host of key stars near their returns from injury.

The England international added: "We have massive players to come back in with the likes of Erling [Haaland], Jeremy Doku and Kevin [De Bruyne] so three important players.

"When they come back, hopefully they make the team stronger. I'm looking forward to them coming back."

Everton have now lost their last two games after a run of four consecutive victories previously.

It leaves them just a point above the relegation zone but goalscorer Harrison urged his Toffees team-mates to keep the faith.

The former City winger said: "Unfortunately today we messed up on a couple of things and that's costly against the best sides so we just have to be aware of that going forward.

"There's still a long season left. We can only control what we can do and keep going game by game.

"Everyone will be resting and recovering to prepare for the next game."
