The Netherlands felt aggrieved about a VAR decision to disallow a Xavi Simons goal in their 0-0 draw with France but they kick off the final round of fixtures on top of Group D.

However, Ronald Koeman's men had to come from behind to beat Poland 2-1 on matchday one and they face a dangerous Austria side in Berlin.

Coached by former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick, Austria put in an eye-catching performance in a 1-0 loss to France before a 3-1 win over Poland kept them in the hunt for a top-two finish.

Team news

Netherlands striker Brian Brobbey has recovered from a hamstring strain and was on the bench against France.

Publicidad

Wout Weghorst, who scored a late winner against Poland on matchday one, is pushing for a start.

Austria centre-back Gernot Trauner, who scored the opening goal in their win over the Poles, is a doubt so Maximilian Wober or Kevin Danso could deputise in defence.

Michael Gregoritsch may get the nod over veteran Marko Arnautovic up front.

The stats

Three of the Netherlands' last four wins were by a 4-0 scoreline.

Publicidad

The Dutch have kept seven clean sheets in their last nine games.

Only one of the Netherlands' last 11 matches at a European Championship finals featured over 3.5 goals.

Austria have scored in the first 10 minutes in five of their last six games.

Christoph Baumgartner has scored in six of Austria's last seven internationals.

Austria have won seven of their last nine matches.

Netherlands forward Wout Weghorst has impressed off the bench so far at Euro 2024

Prediction

Fine margins often prove decisive at tournament football and the Netherlands and Austria have both been involved in some tight games in Group D.

A Maximilian Wober own goal cost Austria a point in their opener against France while the Dutch scored an 83rd-minute winner against Poland before VAR denied them a possible winning goal against Les Bleus.

The Netherlands' first two opponents have been missing their star strikers, Poland's Robert Lewandowski and France's Kylian Mbappe, so they may be vulnerable against a vibrant Austria side.

The Austrians certainly look stronger than the Dutch in midfield and RB Leipzig's Christoph Baumgartner has scored in six of his last seven internationals.

Doubts remain over the Dutch forwards while Austria's friendly results since the end of Euro 2024 qualifying include a 2-0 win over Germany and a 6-1 rout of Turkey.

Publicidad

France were fortunate to see Simons' strike ruled out but they squandered plenty of good chances themselves and Austria look a big price to seal their place in the last 16 with a win over the Oranje.
