The draw for the Nations League takes place tomorrow as Europe's finest discover their fate for the newly-expanded continental competition in 2024-25.

Following their relegation, England line up in League B for the first time alongside Wales, with promoted Scotland the sole home nation representative in the top division.

Here is all you need to know ahead of the draw in Paris, which starts at 5pm GMT.

League A

Pot 1: Spain, Croatia, Italy, Netherlands

*Lithuania and Gibraltar face a relegation play-off next month to see who ends up in Leagues C and D.

How does the Nations League draw work?

Leagues A, B and C all have four groups made up of four teams, with one drawn from each seeding pot into each group.

League D, made up of some of Europe's lower-ranked teams, has two groups of three teams each.

There are two restrictions on who can play who, with Kazakhstan only allowed to be drawn against one of England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Iceland for excessive travel reasons.

Armenia and Azerbaijan cannot be drawn together in League C for political reasons.

What is the format of the Nations League?

The top two teams from each group in League A will qualify for a new two-legged quarter-final stage in March 2025, with the four winners reaching the semi-finals in June.

Winners of Leagues B, C and D are promoted to a higher division, with the fourth-placed teams in Leagues A, B and C groups relegated.

Teams who finish third in their groups in League A will face the runners-up in League B in a two-legged promotion/relegation play-off.

Third-placed countries in League B groups go up against League C runners-up. There is also a play-off between the best two fourth-placed teams and the two second-placed sides in League D.

The 2024-25 Nations League also offers another route into the 2026 World Cup. 

The four best group winners who did not reach the North American tournament in the usual way enter into a World Cup play-off against runners-up from the European qualifying groups.

When are the Nations League games?

Teams in Leagues A, B and C play two games in September, two in October and two in November.

Who could play who?

England and Wales are unable to face each other with both in Pot 1 of the League B draw, with clashes against Austria and Czech Republic also ruled out.

The duo may face Republic of Ireland in the competition, with the managerless Boys in Green allocated in Pot 3 in League B.

Scotland are up against some of Europe's top teams, with games against Netherlands, Belgium and France the toughest of their potential League A opponents, according to FIFA rankings.
