Manchester United's showdown against Leeds at Old Trafford and Chelsea's home game with Liverpool have been postponed.

The Premier League Matchday 8 fixtures, which were due to take place on Sunday, were called off because of policing issues following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Brighton had already postponed their derby with Crystal Palace on Saturday because of a planned rail strike.

Despite that walkout being cancelled out of respect following Her Majesty's death last Thursday, the game remains off.

United were due to host Leeds at 2pm BST on Sunday ahead of Chelsea's showdown with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge at 4.30pm.

Explaining the decision in a statement, the Red Devils said: "This is due to Greater Manchester Police supporting forces across the United Kingdom at locations and events of high significance following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."

Brentford's match with Arsenal is still scheduled for Sunday but has been moved forward to midday to "ensure policing and safety resources are utilised in the best way" ahead of the Queen's funeral the following day, while Everton against West Ham has been switched to 2.15pm for TV purposes.

A Premier League statement said: "Following extensive consultation with clubs, police, local safety advisory groups and other relevant authorities, there was no other option but to postpone the three fixtures.

"The Premier League would like to thank the UK Football Policing Unit and other police forces across the country, as well as our broadcast partners, for their support during this process and will continue to liaise with them ahead of the weekend.

"For the matches being played during the period of national mourning, tributes will be paid to the Queen at Premier League stadiums."
