Cristiano Ronaldo's dramatic move from Juventus to Manchester United has been confirmed.

The Portuguese legend returns to Old Trafford for just £13million — 12 years after leaving for Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, 36, has signed a two-year deal with United and could make his second debut for the club on September 11, when they host Newcastle.

He said: "Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday.

"I cannot wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again.

"I'm looking forward to joining up with the team after the international games and I hope we have a very successful season ahead.”

After netting 118 goals for United and winning the first of five Ballon d'Or awards before moving to Spain in 2009, Ronaldo has established himself as one of the all-time greats.

As well as winning the Champions League five times, the forward has picked up seven league titles during his spells with United, Real and Juventus.

Ronaldo appeared set to join Premier League champions Manchester City last week before the Red Devils swooped.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking forward to managing former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo

And boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is thrilled to have the superstar at his disposal.

Solskjaer said: "You run out of words to describe Cristiano. He is not only a marvellous player but also a great human being.

"To have the desire and the ability to play at the top level for such a long period requires a very special person.

"I have no doubt he will continue to impress us all and his experience will be so vital for the younger players in the squad.

"Ronaldo’s return demonstrates the unique appeal of this club and I am absolutely delighted he is coming home to where it all started."
